Rivera, Yap move to the top in the Local Pool at 38th Philippine Open

Long-time Philippines national team members Biboy Rivera (pictured left) and Cecilia Yap moved to the top in the men's and women's Local Pool in the Open Masters qualifying of the 38th Philippine International Open Championships in Manila.
Rivera, the 2006 World Champion in the Masters competition, had 3-game series of 728 and 689 to overtake the lead in the men's Local Pool and fourth place overall with 1417 six-game total and an average of 236.17.
Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong set the pace in the men's division with 1504 pinfall total (250.67) including a 300 game. Rakan Al-Amiri, Kuwait, overtook second place with 1438, followed by Wicky Yeung, Hong Kong with 1422.
45 men - the top 12 each from the Local and Overseas Pool, the top 15 from the Local & Overseas Pool, two Overseas Filipinos plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - will join defending champion Benshir Layoso, Philippines, in the finals. The top 6 each from the Local and Overseas Pool will bypass the first round of the finals.
2003 World Trios Champion Yap (pictured right) had two consistent series of 680 and 677 to move to the top of the women's Local Pool with 1357 and an average of 226.17.
Previous leader Lara Posadas fell one spot to second place with 1348. Third place belonged to Liza Del Rosario (1304), who is targeting for her fourth Philippine Open title after 200, 2003 and 2007.
The top 3 spots in the Overseas Pool belong to Malaysian bowlers. Tang Joh Six and Tengku Emanina are tied for first place with 1328 with Sin Li Jane in third at 1308.
29 women - the top 6 each from the Local and Overseas Pool, the top 13 from the Local & Overseas Pool plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - will join defending champion Krizziah Tabora, Philippines, in the finals. The top 3 each from the Local and Overseas Pool will earn one bye.
