2009MECLogo_small.jpg 235 of the best female amateur bowlers in the world from 45 countries including some of the most decorated professional women bowlers are getting ready for the action at the 2009 Women's World Championship.

2009WWCCashmanCenter.jpgFor the first time in the history of the bowling sport, professionals are allowed to participate in the championships which will be hosted from July 24 through Aug. 3, 2009 on 60 lanes, specially constructed inside the Cashman Center (point-and-click cam) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The temporary lanes were built inside the convention center earlier this year and have hosted the USBC Open Championships, which concludes July 24 (special squads for WWC guests July 22-24).

45 countries - Austria, Bahamas, Bermuda, Bulgaria, Canada, Catalonia, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine, Venezuela, Wales and the host country, the United States of America - will participate in the event.

The total marks the most countries to compete in the World Women's Championships since it split with the men's championships after the 2003 event in Malaysia.

Maximum six players per team will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines: Singles, Doubles, Trios, 5-player Team, All Events and Masters.

2007BWCDanielFalconi_small.jpgIn a rule change put in place by the WTBA Presidium, the patterns used will be from a bank of three short and three medium patterns. Technical delegate Daniel Falconi, Mexico, (pictured left) has decided Stockholm for the short and Athens for the medium. You find the patterns here.

Singles and Doubles will be contested on one oil pattern, while Trios and Team will feature both oil patterns (3 games each on medium and short).

The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The winners will determine the world champion. All matches are single-game matches
