Hong/Son totaled 2616 for six games on the medium pattern, a team average of 218.00, and Gang/Hwan had 2613 (217.75) to grab the No., 2 seed. This guarantees Korea, the dominating force in women's bowling in Asia, its first two medals

2009WWCAnneGalesRikkeRasmussen.jpg2009WCAnnMareePutneyCarolGianotti.jpgAnne Gales and Rikke Rasmussen (pictured right, l-r), Denmark, were another five pins behind to end up in third place with 2608 (217.33). Denmark is the sole country that has a finalist both finals on Thursday, Singles (Anja Ginge Jensen) and Doubles.

Their team mates Mai Ginge Jensen and Kamilla Kjeldsen almost made it an all Danish/Korean Doubles final. However, a final 375 game opened the door for Aussies Carol Gianotti and Ann Maree Putney (above, r-l). The former PWBA champ (Gianotti) and the World and World Cup champ (Putney) combined for a huge 492 game to beat out the Danes for the final spot by one pin, 2570 to 2569.

Rasmussen leads in All Events (combined results from Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team) after 12 of 24 games with 2630, a 219.17 average, with Sweden's Helen Johnsson mere one pin behind at 2629. Rasmussen's teammate Mai Ginge-Jensen is third with 2602.

All teams bowled one six-game block on the WTBA Athens pattern. The top 4 duos after three squads advanced to the finals on Thursday, July 30, 2009 starting right after the Singles finals at 7.00pm.

The No. 1 seed after the preliminaries (Hong/Son) will bowl the No. 4 (Gianotti/Putney) and No. 2 (Gang/Hwan) takes on No. 3 (Gales/Rasmussen) in the semifinals. The winners will bowl for the title and the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are one-game matches.

The 2009 Women's World Championships consists of six disciplines. Players will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team and Masters competition before the event concludes Sunday. Medals also will be awarded for All Events.

The World Championships is being held on 60 specially constructed lanes inside Cashman Center and includes the world's largest mobile video scoreboard, an investment of nearly $6 million, spectator seating, office, vendor and pro shop space, a scale room, squad room, registration area and shipping department.

USBC plans to live stream portions of the event on bowl.com, and bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the finals and select semifinals.
