Team USA rises to the top in Trios event after Squad 1/2

Liz Johnson/Carolyn Dorin-Ballard/Stefanie Nation (left to right) from the host country of the United States rolled a big game at the end of the first block to take the lead in the Women's World Championships Trios event after Squad 1. The Americans posted games of 634, 617 and 691 on the WTBA Stockholm pattern for 1942 total or an individual average of 215.78.
Places 2 and 3 belonged to Korea and Denmark, who showed a strong performance in the championships so far. Gang Hye Eun/Hwang Sun Ok/Kim Yeau Jin, Korea, had 1930 (214.44) to claim the second place just one pin ahead of Britt Brøndsted/Anja Ginge Jensen/Mai Ginge Jensen, who sit in third place with 1929 (214.33).
Trailing Denmark by 28 pins to sit in fourth place is Hong Kong with Chan Shuk Han/Vanessa Fung/Milki Ng, who checked in with 1901. Just outside the top 4 by three pins is Japan with Ayano Katai/Maki Nakano/Nao Ohishi at 1898 (210.89).
The teams were divided into two squads to bowl three games on the WTBA Stockholm pattern, the shorter pattern of the two that are used during this championship. The second block on the medium Athens pattern and the finals will follow on Friday.

The World Championships is being held on 60 specially constructed lanes inside Cashman Center and includes the world's largest mobile video scoreboard, an investment of nearly $6 million, spectator seating, office, vendor and pro shop space, a scale room, squad room, registration area and shipping department.
USBC plans to live stream portions of the event on bowl.com, and bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the finals and select semifinals.
