Colombia shoots into lead as Trios event reaches halfway point at Women's World Championships

Clara Juliana Guerrero overtakes the lead in All Events after 15/24 games

The Colombians had games of 669 , 663, and 628 to shoot into the lead with 1960 pinfall total and an average of 217.78 for the three games on the WTBA Stockholm pattern.

2009WWCLizJohnsonCarolynDorinBallardStefanieNation.jpg2005 World Ranking Masters champion Guerrero led the team with the field-best 735 series en route to overtake the lead in All Events after 15 of 24 games with 3312 total (220.80). Gomez added 618 and Restrepo had 607.

Squad 1 leaders United States with Liz Johnson/Carolyn Dorin-Ballard/Stefanie Nation (l-r, 1942), Gang Hye Eun/Hwang Sun Ok/Kim Yeau Jin, Korea (1930), and Britt Brøndsted/Anja Ginge Jensen/Mai Ginge Jensen, Denmark (1929) slipped one spot to second through fourth place.

2009WWCLisaJohnJoCundyHayleyWhite.jpgJust outside the top 4 looking in is England with Lisa John/Jo Cundy/Hayley White (left, l-r), who are mere two pins behind the Danes in fifth place with 1927. Lisa John led the team with 734 including a 295 game (1, 2, 4, 6, 10).

Two more teams from Asia cracked the 1900 bar Thursday at Cashman Center in Las Vegas. Chinese Taipei spinners Yang Hao-Ting and Tsai Hsin-Yi joined forces with Tang Ya-Chun, who prefers the traditional style, and landed in sixth place with 1908,

Chan Shuk Han/Vanessa Fung/Milki Ng from Hong Kong chalked up 1901 pins to sit in 7th place before the final 3-game block on Friday before the cut to the top 4, who will advance to the finals.

The 68 trios were divided into two squads to bowl three games on the WTBA Stockholm pattern, the shorter pattern of the two that are used during this championship. The second block on the medium Athens pattern and the finals will follow on Friday.

The top 4 trios after six games will advance to the finals on Friday, July 31, 2009 starting at 6.30pm. The No. 1 seed will bowl the No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3 in the semifinals. The winners will bowl for the title and the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are one-game matches.

The 2009 Women's World Championships consists of six disciplines. Players will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team and Masters competition before the event concludes Sunday. Medals also will be awarded for All Events.

The World Championships is being held on 60 specially constructed lanes inside Cashman Center and includes the world's largest mobile video scoreboard, an investment of nearly $6 million, spectator seating, office, vendor and pro shop space, a scale room, squad room, registration area and shipping department.

USBC plans to live stream portions of the event on bowl.com, and bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the finals and select semifinals.
