2009WWCTangYaChunTsaiHsinYiYangHaoTing.jpgYang Hao-Ting, Tsai Hsin-Yi and Tang Ya-Chun (r-l) from Chinese Taipei set the pace in the preliminaries of the World Trios Championships after the 35 trios from Squad 2 have completed their six game block Friday morning at Cashman Center in Las Vegas.

The team consisting of two spinners (Yang and Tsai) and a traditional style bowler (Tang) posted games of 617, 678 and 595 on the WTBA Stockholm pattern, the longer of the two pattern used at this championship. They added 1890 to the 1908 from the first block yesterday, which was played on the shorter WTBA Athens pattern.

The six-game total of 3798 and a 211.00 average propelled the Chinese Taipei bowler to the top of Squad 2.

The Chinese Taipei coach has a trick to motivate his players. For three strikes in a row, Yang, Tsai and Tang are allowed to mark an "X" on the coach's arm, even two for four in a row. However, if a player misses a spare, the coach does the same. As shown on the picture, the coach will be running out of space soon. Click on the image to enlarge it.

2009WWCClaraGuerreroPaolaGomezRocioRestrepo.jpgBlock 1 leader Colombia with Clara Juliana Guerrero, Paola Gomez and Rocio Restrepo (right, l-r) slipped to third place after a sub-par 1792 series today with 3752 (208.44). Guerrero held on to the lead in All Events, with Helen Johnsson, Sweden, in second, and Denmark's Rikke Rasmussen in third.

With Squad 1 to go, Indonesians Putty Armein, Sharon Limansantoso and Tannya Rouminper holds the fourth place to advance to the finals with 3747 (208.17).

2009WWCLizJohnsonCarolynDorinBallardStefanieNation.jpgHowever, the top 4 trios from Squad 1, United States (left, l-r, Liz Johnson, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and Singles World Champion Stefanie Nation), Korea, Denmark and Hong Kong, each averaged higher than the Chinese Taipei trio in the first block.

After Squad 1 will have complete their six-game preliminaries in the afternoon, the top four trios will advance to the semifinals, which will be held Friday at 5.00 local time (8.00 p.m. EDT).

The No. 1 seed will bowl the No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3 in the semifinals. The winners will bowl for the title and the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are one-game matches.

The 2009 Women's World Championships consists of six disciplines. Players will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team and Masters competition before the event concludes Sunday. Medals also will be awarded for All Events.

The World Championships is being held on 60 specially constructed lanes inside Cashman Center and includes the world's largest mobile video scoreboard, an investment of nearly $6 million, spectator seating, office, vendor and pro shop space, a scale room, squad room, registration area and shipping department.

USBC plans to live stream portions of the event on, and bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the finals and select semifinals.
