Round 1 Stadium in Niigata and Grand Bowl Kurosaki, Niigata-Ken (Sept. 26-30, 2009)

The National Sports Festival is Japan's largest annual multi-sports meeting. The Prefectures (Ken) alternate in hosting the annual event cooperating with each of the participating sport organization. Niigata-Ken was the host prefecture this year.

The Japan Sports Association and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports and Technology were the co-organizers. The Japan Bowling Congress was involved as the organizer of the bowling competition, which was held from September 26-30 at Round 1 Stadium in Niigata (adult) and Grand Bowl Kurosaki (youth).

The bowling competition featured Singles, Doubles and 4-player Team events for Men and Women as well Singles and Doubles for Boys and Girls.

For the second consecutive year, Fukuoka Prefecture (pictured, click on the image to enlarge) emerged as the overall champion of the National Sports Festival Bowling Competition as the prefecture's bowlers won the most points in both the men's and women's division. Fukuoka received the Bowling President's Cup for accomplishing the feat.

Every year the National Sports Festival awards the Emperor's Cup (most points combined, men and women) and the Empress' Cup (most points for women) to the prefecture(s) which has earned the most points from all participating sports.

Points for Emperor’s and Empress’ Cup were given as follows:
Singles: 1st place - 8 points, 2nd place 7, ……, and 8th place 1.
Team: 1st place - 24 points, 2nd place 21, 3rd place 18, ……, and 8th place 3.

After the conclusion of all sports involved, both the Emperor's and Empress' Cup were awarded to Niigata Prefecture.
