One month to go to the start of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup
10/17/09
There is now just a month to go to the start of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia, and the tournament could just be in for a record.
The final qualification tournaments are taking place with the final names coming in and it looks as if the 2009 BWC might equal the record of 95 participating countries set in Singapore in 2004.
The latest bowlers to win their way through to the championship were from France and Singapore. From France will come Thierry Sacco and his sister-in-law Isabelle Sacco. For Isabelle it will be her fifth appearance in the Bowling World Cup; last year she and husband Francois competed Hermosillo, Mexico. Thierry will be making his third appearance.
Remy Ong from Singapore will be competing for the fifth time and is no stranger to the finals. He came fifth in 2001 in Pattaya, Thailand, runner up in 2002 in Riga, Latvia, and third when the tournament was in his home city. He also came 10th in 2007 in St. Petersburg., Russia. Bernice Lim will be Singapore's female competitor, making her first appearance in the event. Her compatriot Jasmine Yeong-Nathan won the women's title in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup last year.
Not only do many players return time after time, but this love of the Bowling World Cup also gets passed on to the next generation. Panama will be sending Jonathan Heres, whose father Isaac took part in the BWC five times with a high finish of 11th in 1993.
As usual, QubicaAMF will be running a series of seminars alongside the tournament on lane care, pinspotters and pro shop operation in addition to the very successful bowling center management school.
Anne-Marie Board, QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup tournament manager, commented: "Our seminars are a very important part of the event and we know how much our customers appreciate both the knowledge they gain and the chance to meet our key staff and to network with each other."
