Son, Jeon capture the second gold medal for Korea in Women's Doubles in Vietnam

Asian Indoor Games Singles champion Son Yun-Hee teamed with Jeon Eun-Heeto win the second gold medal for Korea in the Women's Doubles event Wednesday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam.

Son/Jeon, both members of the Korean quintet which has won the gold medal in the 5-player team event at the Women's World Championships in Las Vegas this summer, earned the No. 1 seed in the preliminaries averaging 217.75 over six games.

The duo flew past No. 8 Natsumi Koizumi/Rina Asada, Japan, in the quarterfinal, 462-351, while No. 2, 3 and 4 seeds Indonesia's Tannya Roumimper/Putty Armein, Daphne Tan/Gina Lim from Singapore and the second Indonesia duo, Novie Phang/Sharon Limansantoso, all were eliminated and finished 5th to 7th.

The Koreans advanced to the title match with an easy 452-364 victory over #7 Wang Ya-Ting/Pan Yu-Fen, Chinese Taipei. The other semifinal match was an all-Malaysian affair in which No. 5 seed, Fatin Syazliana and Sin Li Jane ousted their team mates Sharon Koh and Tg Emanina, seeded sixth, 407-365.

In the title match, Son rolled a 228 game and Jeon added 204 to wrap up the second gold medal for Korea against Syazliana (188) and Jane (205), 432-393.

The 3rd Asian Indoor Games drew 73 men and 49 women from 20 countries, who will bowl for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles and 4-Player team event. The championships will continue on Thursday with the first block of three games on long oil in the 4-player team event. The women will bowl in the morning with the men to follow in the afternoon.
