Korean women and UAE men sweep gold medals in 3rd Asian Indoor Games

Conclude Games with victory in 4-player Team event

Korea's Jeon Eun-Hee, Gang Hye-Eun, Hwang Sun-Ok and Son Yun-Hee and Hussain Al-Suwaidi, Sayed Ibrahim, Shaker Al-Hassan and Naif Oqab, UAE, swept the gold medals in Singles, Doubles and Team in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam.

In the women's 4-player team title match the Koreans flew past Japan with Natsumi Koizumi, Rina Asada, Kazumi Satoh and Maki Sano, 895-696, to win the third gold medal in as many events.

In the semis the top-seeded Koreans outlasted No. 4 Hong Kong with Milki Ng, Katherine Lau, Chan Shuk Han and Vanessa Fung, 807-706, while Japan, seeded third, eliminated No. 2 seed Malaysia with Fatin Syazliana, Tg Emanina, Sharon Koh, Sin Li Jane, 867-770.

Japan took the silver medal while Hong Kong and Malaysia shared the bronze.

On the men's side, the UAE bowlers coached by PBA champ Patrick Healey Jr. were the sole team that managed a 200 average.

In the men's semifinal, 4th seeded UAE stunned tournament leader Korea with Choi Bok-Eum, Cho Young Seon, Jang Dong-Chul, Kim Tae-Young, 845-719. No. 3 seeded Malaysia with Kang Bo Long, Rodson Tong, Kelvin Keong and Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan ousted No. 2 Kuwait with Basil Al-Anzi, Mohamad Al-Zaidan, Khaled Al-Dubyyan and Abbas Jassim Darwish, 773-764.

In the title match, the Arabs combined four games between 203 and 213 to defeat the Malaysians, 829-788.

The 3rd Asian Indoor Games drew 73 men and 49 women from 20 countries, who bowled for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles and 4-Player team event.

Korea led the overall medal table with three gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal. The UAE was second with three gold medals. Malaysia (2 silver, 2 bronze), Japan (2 silver), Indonesia and Kuwait (2 bronze each) as well as Philippines, Singapore and Chinese Taipei (1 bronze each) shared the rest of the medals.
