Daegu, Tamuning capture the men's and women's Team titles in 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship

    Choi Suk Byung rolls the second 300 game of the Championship

    2009AIBCLogo.jpg 2009AIBCMenTeamDaegu.jpgThe men from Daegu, Korea, and the women from the host city Tamuning, Guam, captured the gold medals in the four-player Team event in the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship Wednesday at Central Lanes in Tamuning, Guam.

    Led by Choi Suk Byung, who rolled the second 300 game of the Championship and posted the highest six-game series with 1435, Bae Su Wook (1378), Shin Sung Hoon (1359) and Kim Young Pyo (pictured right) secured the third gold medal for Daegu in as many events with 5515 pinfall total and an average of 229.75.

    2009AIBCMenTeam.jpgJohnJohn Ada, Jonathan Duenas, JD Castro and Brian Manibusan (on the left side) from the host city Tamuning were 157 pins behind to earn the silver medal with 5357 (223.21).

    Bronze went to the team from Hong Kong City. Kwan Ho Lau, David Tsang, Carlos Lai and Michael Chan (on the right side) were another 398 pins behind second place with 4959 (206.63).

    2009AIBCWomenTeamTamuning.jpgTamuning's Leanne Rankin (1198), Marie Velasco (1191), Shellee Javier (1221) and Fely Mandapat (1277), pictured right, took the lead after the first 3-game block (2456) and maintained the lead in the second block (2431) to win the first gold medal of the championship for Guam with 4887 pinfall total and an average of 203.63.

    2009AIBCWomenTeam.jpgLucy Cheng, Lara Posadas, Liza Clutario and Cecilia Yap (on the left side) of Paranaque City, Philippines, finished with the field-best 2530 block to jump into second place with 4806 (200.25).

    Singles champion Yoon Jun Sil, who also won the Doubles with Kim Hee Jung teamed with Kim Sun Mee and Yim Myung Ae (on the right side) to take the bronze medal with 4786 (199.42). The foursome had a slow start with 2286 but added 2500 in the last three games to secure a medal.

    The feat came at the expense of Yap Seok Kim, Sheena Go, Angeli Lao and Ditas Red from Pasay City, Philippines, who were second after the first block (2442) but slipped all the way out of the medals to fourth place with 4698 behind a 2256 in the second block of three games.

    The 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship drew 59 men and 40 women from 15 cities. The Championship will conclude on Thursday and Friday with the men's and women's Masters.
