Remy Ong (pictured left) from Singapore overtook the lead in third round of the finals and cruised to victory in the 9th Qatar International Open Saturday at Qatar Bowling Center in Doha, Qatar. In the title match over two games total pinfall, the No. 1 seed defeated fellow lefthander Peter Ljung (right), Sweden, 416-414, to win the 30.000 Euro top prize. Ljung was consoled with 15.000 Euro.
In the semifinal, Ong defeated No. 4 seed, Andrew Frawley, Australia, 435-405, to set up a title match against Ljung, who eliminated No. 3 seed, Britt Brøndsted, Denmark, 444-397. Brøndsted and Frawley received 5.000 apiece for third and fourth place.
Osku Palermaa, Finland, and Nicki Ainge, England, won the 2009 men's and women's European Bowling Tour rankings.

Ong led Round 4 with 2740 12-game total and an average of 228.33. He will take on Aussie Andrew Frawley (right), who took the fourth and final spot with 2521.
In the other semifinal over two games total pinfall, No. 2 Peter Ljung, Sweden (2605) and Britt Brøndsted, Denmark (2594) will square off.

The 9th Qatar Open is the 15th and final event on the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Major's". The EBT has announced that the 2010 edition will be upgraded to "Platinum", the highest status of the Tour besides Gold, Silver and Satellite.
A total of 48 players - the top 38 qualifiers and the top 3 each from Dec. 12 and 13 squads plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - advanced to the finals on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18-19, 2009.
The top 6 qualifiers bypassed the first two rounds, while places 7-12 received one bye. The other 36 players bowled six games from scratch to cut to the top 18. Those 18 plus qualifiers 7-12 also bowled six games from scratch in Round 2 and cut to the top 10, who joined the top six qualifiers in Round 3 on Saturday.
Those 16 bowled six games from scratch to cut to the top 8, who bowled another six games with the pinfall from Round 3 being carried forward. The top 4 advanced to the championship round. All matches over two games total pinfall.
No. 1 bowls No. 4 and No. 2 meets No. 3. The winners will advance to the championship match to bowl for the title and the 30.000 Euro top prize (approx. 43,865 U.S. Dollar). The runner-up will be consoled with 15.000 Euro, while places 3 and 4 will receive 5.000 Euro apiece.
