First gold of the 15th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships goes to Korea

Silver and bronze for Japan; Asada shoots first 300 game of the Championships

2010AsYCLogo_small.jpg 2010AsYCBaekSeungJa.jpgBaek Seung Ja won the first gold medal in the 15th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Girls Singles on the first day of competition Tuesday at Cozmo Bowling Center in Salmiya City, Kuwait.

Seung Ja started the event with a 299 game and never looked back. She added games of 229 and 245 for 773 for the first three games and cruised to victory with back-to-back 279 and her low game of 221 (779) for 1552 six-game total and an average of 258.67.

2010AsYCMisakiMukotaniBaekSeungJaRinaAsada.jpgSilver and bronze went to Misaki Mukotani (left) and Rina Asada (right) from the Japan. Bowling Congress. Mukotani was in sixth place after three games (675) but finished with 814 to jump into second place behind games of 269, 278 and 267.

Her 1489 pinfall total (248.17) beat out Asada's 1469 (244.83) by 20 pins. Asada rolled first 300 game of the championships in game two but had to settle for second place due a 192 final game.

The top 3 set new championship records for one, three and six games. Fourth-placed Bernice Lim, Singapore, also cracked the 1410-bar with 1410 (235.00).

31 girls from 8 countries - Australia, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore - will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, 4-player Team, All Events and Masters.
