Malaysian Boys maintain lead to win gold in Team event at 15th Asian Youth Championships

    Hong Kong's Mak, Tseng claim gold and silver in All Events

    2010AsYCBoysTeamMalaysia2.jpgDay one leader (on long oil) Malaysia with Aris Ardilla Santosoh, Khoo Beng Khai, Johnathan Chan and Syimir Abdul Razak maintained the lead in the second 3-game block on short oil to capture the gold medal in the Boys 4-player Team event at the 15th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Kuwait.

    The team felled 2613 on long oil and added 2701 on short oil to win the title with 5314 and an average of 221.42. Razak led the team with 1444 (240.66 avg.) to help grab the bronze medal in All Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles and Team) with 4137.

    2010AsYCTsengMakRazak.jpgHong Kong's Michael Mak (1381) and Eric Tseng (1420) led their teammates Rickle Kam and Michael Tsang from fifth place to the silver medal in the Team event en route to claim the gold and silver medal in All Events.

    Hong Kong was 55 pins behind Malaysia with 5259 pinfall total and an average of 219.13. Mak totaled 4245 pins to win the title in All Events averaging 235.83 over 18 games. Tseng took silver with 4160.

    Hong Kong started the day with a 992 game, the highest game of the team event, and finished with the highest 3-game series of 2753 (229.42). Mak had the field-best 764 individual series and Tseng rolled the highest individual game of all players with 287. This was the first event of the championships without a 300 game.

    Kuwait's Khaled Al-Dubyyan, Mahdi Al-Qalaf, Jassim Darwish and Rakan Al-Amiri matched Hong Kong's leapfrog as the team from the host country jumped from sixth to third place behind a 2733 series including games of 932, 823 and 978.

    The four Kuwaitis totaled 5211 pins (217.13) to beat out Korea for the bronze medal by 22 pins. Korea's Park Jong Woo had the highest individual 6-game series of the event with 1459 (243.17). His team mate, Singles champion Shin Seung Hyeon slipped from first to fourth place in All Events behind a 1230 series in the Team event. The top 16 in All Events advanced to the Masters finals on Monday and Tuesday. Hong Kong, Korea, Kuwait and Malaysia will be represented by three players each, Singapore has two players and Australia and UAE one player each.

    58 boys from 15 countries - Australia, China, DPR Korea, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and UAE - will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, 4-player Team, All Events and Masters.
