Mak, who averaged 262.25 on the short pattern yesterday for a 136-pin lead, averaged little over 200 in the first six games on the long pattern Tuesday afternoon at Cozmo Bowling Center in Salmiya City, Kuwait.

His strongest rival, Singles gold medalist Shin Seung Hyeon, Korea, averaged over 220 to overtake the lead after 14 games by 8 pins. Shin rolled the sixth 300 game of the championships and the third by boy in the penultimate game but Mak was still in contention for the No. 1 seed thanks to a 269 game.

In the position round match, Mak posted an average 214 game and surprisingly regained the top seed position as Shin suffered a disastrous 166 game to slip to second place.

Mak finished the 16-game preliminaries with 3809 16-game total, an average of 238.06, and a 12-4 won-loss record (10 pins bonus per win) for 3929 pinfall total. Shin had to settle for second place with 3910 including the field-best 13-3 match play record.

The third and final spot for the stepladder finals was also decided between Korea and Hong Kong. Hong Hae Sol had a 12-pin advantage heading into the final position round match against Mak's team mate Eric Tseng.

Tseng, who has won gold in Doubles (with Mak) and Team thus far, ousted the Korean, 245-192, to earn the No. 3 seed with 3709 (10-6). Hong slipped to fifth place with 3658 (9-7). Benjamin Lim, Singapore, moved into fourth place with 3668 (8-8) with a 248-187 win over Park Jong Woo, Korea.

The top 16 in All Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles and Team) advanced to the Masters finals on Monday and Tuesday. All 16 players bowled 15 games of round robin match play plus 1 game position round (10 pins bonus per win, 5 for a tie) to determine the top 3 players who advanced to the stepladder final.

58 boys from 15 countries - Australia, China, DPR Korea, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and UAE - will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, 4-player Team, All Events and Masters.
