Wichita State, Fresno State and Lindenwood sweep their respective sectionals

2006ITCLogo.jpg The field is set for the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships following the completion of Sectional Qualifier competition March 25-26, with Wichita State, Fresno State and Lindenwood winning the men's and women's titles at their respective sectionals.

Four Sectional Qualifiers, comprising of 64 Baker System games, were held at AMF Parkway in Allentown, Pa.; Holiday Bowl Brainerd in Chattanooga, Tenn.; St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.; and Don Carter City View Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas. The top four in the men's and women's divisions at each sectional advance to the 2006 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, scheduled for April 26-29 at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Ill.

Qualifiers from the men's division, which features nine past champions and 11 returning teams from the 2005 event, include sectional champions Wichita State, Fresno State, Saginaw Valley State and Lindenwood, the defending national champion. Also advancing were Arizona State, Central Florida, Erie Community College, Kansas, Michigan State, Morehead State, Nebraska, Newman, Purdue, St. John's, Vincennes and Western Illinois.

Lindenwood defeated Fresno State in the men's national championship last season to claim its first national title in only its second appearance in the tournament. Wichita State will make its 21st straight appearance and record 26th overall appearance in the event's 32-year history.

Qualifiers from the women's division, which features five former champions and 12 returning teams from 2005, include sectional champions Fresno State, Central Florida, Lindenwood and Wichita State, the defending national champion. Joining them will be Ball State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Morehead State, Nebraska-Omaha, Newman, Penn State, Pikeville, Purdue, Shippensburg, South Florida, West Texas A&M and Western Illinois.

Wichita State, which will make a record 31st appearance and 25th straight since 1982, defeated West Texas A&M in the 2005 women's national championship match. South Florida and Nebraska-Omaha will make their USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships debut.

Eight schools qualified their men's and women's teams from sectionals, which consisted of 32 Baker System games each day for a total of 64 Baker games.

The USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships is the pinnacle event of the college bowling season. The tournament brings together the top 16 men's and top 16 women's teams in the country to compete for national titles on national television (College Sports Television).
