Thai bowler sweep the titles in Asian Bowling Federation Tour Thailand leg

Apiwich Watanaphongsakorn (l.) and Angkana Netvriseth (r.), both Thailand, swept the men's and women's titles in the Asian Bowling Federation Tour Thailand leg Monday at SF Strike Bowl in Bangkok, Thailand.
Apiwich a newcomer on the Thai national team delighted Thai head coach and USBC silver level coach, Kim Eui Young, Korea, when he defeated Hussain Al-Suwaidi, UAE, 225-215, to claim the men's title.
Al-Suwaidi has made all three championship matches this season. He won the title in the season-opening event in Kuwait against Chester King, Philippines, 236-191, and fell toWu Siu Hong, Hong Kong in the second leg in Saudi Arabia, 255-186.
16 bowlers from Thailand (10), UAE (2), Korea (2), Australia and India (1 each) qualified for the Thailand leg through the final standings of the 36th MWA Thailand International Open. Thailand Open winner Andrew Frawley, Australia, who got his USBC silver level certification together with Kim Eui Young at the Celebrity International Coach/Instructor Training seminar in Milwaukee in February 2008, bowed out in the first round against Annop Arromsaranon, Thailand, 198-193.
Ditto for runner-up Kritchawat Jampakhao, Thailand, who lost his opening match against Dhruv Sarda, India, 201-180.
Apiwich eliminated three compatriots, Somjed Kusonpithak (213-199), Surasak Manuwong (199-143) and Dechochai Tinjiratip (227-210) on his way to the title match.
Al-Suwaidhi rolled the highest game of the event in the first round defeating Yannaphon Larp-apharat, Thailand, 268-221, and went on to beat Sithiphol Kunaksorn, Thailand, in Round 2, 213-195, and Kim Meen Woo, Korea, in the semifinal, 193-171.
The Thailand leg was the season-opening event for the women as the legs in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia were once again men only events. Nine players from Thailand, two each from Korea, India and Indonesia including Thailand Open winner Tannya Roumimper as well as runner-up Tang Joh Six from Malaysia qualified for the event.

The title match was an all Thai affair in which Angkana Netvriseth secured the title with a 199-188 victory against Korngunya Aree.
Tang Joh Six failed to survive the first round and Roumimper fell to Korngunya in the second round, 188-185. Angkana eliminated the last foreigner, former ABF and ABF Tour ranking winner, Kim Eun Jung, Korea, in the semifinal, 201-191.
Ms Vivien Lau (pictured with the champions), Honorary Life President of the Asian Bowling Federation and Chairman of the ABF Tour Committee, presented the trophies to the winners.
The fourth stop of the 2010 Asian Bowling Federation Tour will be held April 30 at the International Bowling Center in Cairo, Egypt. This will mark the first time that the ABF Tour will visit Egypt.
