Surasak Manuwong, Kristel Oh lead Singapore Open Masters qualifiers into the finals

Surasak Manuwong (pictured left), Thailand, and Kristel Oh, Singapore, held on to the lead in the qualifying of the 43rd Singapore International Open Masters competition Thursday at Orchid Bowl at Orchid Country Club in Singapore en route to lead 42 men and 30 women into the finals on Friday and Saturday.
Manuwong's 1061 total, an average of 265.25, was the sole 4-game series over 1000 in both divisions. Aaron Kong, Malaysia, was second in the Overseas Pool with 970 and Somjed Kusonpithak, Thailand, was third with 962.
Howard Saw posted the fourth highest 956 to lead the Local Pool with an average of 239.00, Justin Lim was second with 950 and Jason Yeong-Nathan third with 941.
Notables who advanced through the Local & Overseas Pool were Syafiq Ridhwan, Malaysia (914), Zulmazran Zulkifli (right), both Malaysia (911), Tim Mack, United States (909), Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia (905) and Eric Tseng, Hong Kong ( 900).
Phoemphun Yakasem, Thailand (238), Travis Tay, Singapore (235) and Tommy Andre, Indonesia (235) finished atop the leaderboard in the one-game Desperado Squad to grab the lasts three spots for the men's finals.
Kristel Oh set the tone in the women's division leading the Local Pool with 963 or an average of 240.75. PBA Women's Series bowler Shalin Zulkifli (left), Malaysia, had the second highest 943 total to lead the Overseas Pool.
Cherie Tan and New Hui Fen were second and third in the Local Pool with 937 and 927, respectively. Zulkifli was followed by compatriot Zandra Aziela with 931 and Li Hsiao Ping, Chinese Taipei, with 910.
A total of 42 men (39 qualifiers plus the top 3 from the desperado squad) and 30 women including defending champions Shaker Al-Hassan, UAE, and Sharon Koh, Malaysia, advanced to the Masters Finals.
Men and women will bowl two 8-game blocks to determine the top 4 players, who will advance to the stepladder finals. The winner of the opening match between the 2md, 3rd and 4th seed earns the right to bowl the No. 1 seed for the title. The No. 1 seed must be defeated twice to win the title.
In addition to the prize money, S$5,000 will be shared equally amongst the bowlers who roll a perfect game in qualifying, in the Masters finals and in the stepladder finals.
