The tournament leader, who must be defeated twice to win the title, could sit and watch the opening shootout match with Adrian Ang, Malaysia, (2nd), Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia (3rd) and Phoemphun Yakasem, Thailand (4th) facing off.

Lalisang, who rocketed from a tied 30th place to 3rd in the second block thanks to the field-best 1842 series (230.25), rolled a 210 game to defeat Ang (190) and Phoemphun (174) and to earn the right to bowl Cheng for the title.

The Taiwanese spinner bowled a clean game including a turkey in frames 6-8 while Lalisang opened in the first frame and managed only a double in frames 6 and 7 to cruise to the title, 217-197.

Cheng received 25,000 Singapore Dollars for his victory. Lalisang pocketed S$10,000 for second, Ang got S$5,000 for third and Phoemphun garnered S$3,000 for fourth place.

18-year-old Sin Li Jane, the current Malaysian champion, led the 30-player field since the first block and finished the preliminaries with 3502 pinfall total and an average of 218.88 to earn the No. 1 seed for the women's stepladder finals.

Li Jane started the match with three strikes and never looked back to win her first major international title and to become the youngest Singapore Open champion with a 213-177 victory.

The Malaysian earned the S$5,000 winner's check, while Li pocketed S$2,500 for second place. New got S$1,200 for third and Cheah S$800 for fourth place.

42 men and 30 women including defending champions Shaker Al-Hassan, UAE, and Sharon Koh, Malaysia, advanced to the Open Masters Finals.
