Chinese Taipei men and women set the pace as Team event reaches halfway point

2010EAPCLogo.jpg Both teams from Chinese Taipei, men and women, took the lead as the five-player Team event in the 24th East Asian Pacific Championship has reached its halfway point Friday afternoon at Central Lanes in Tamuning, Guam.

The women sandwiched a 907 game between 1012 and 1007, the sole 100-plus games in the women's division, to set the pace in the preliminaries after three of six games with 2926 pinfall total and an average of 195.07.

With only four women's team competing, all teams will qualify for the playoffs. Korea is second with 2821, with Japan in third place with 2600 and Guam fourth with 2236.

On the men's side, Chinese Taipei outaveraged their nearest competitor by more than 12 pins. The spinners finished with 3214 pinfall total, an average of 214.27, behind games of 1124, 1063 and 1027.

Macau is second with 2878 including the only other game over 1000 (1043). Guam is third with 2808 and Japan fourth with 2794. Outside the box looking in are Korea with 2737 and Saipan with 2688.

The second block of three games will be played on Saturday afternoon with the top 4 teams advancing to the playoffs.
