Paul and Fung win ABT Tour Malaysia leg in two low-scoring matches
04/03/06
In what must have been the lowest Asian Bowling Federation Tour finals of all time, Issac Paul of Malaysia and Vanessa Fung, Hong Kong, claimed the titles in the second leg of the 2006 Asian Bowling Federation Tour in Malaysia.
18-year-old Paul won his first career international title with a 171-167 victory over Jason Belmonte, Australia.
Malaysian international Daniel Lim was a red hot favorite to win the championship after a 245-212 victory over Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, in Round 1, and a 269-224 strike fest against Choi Wong Young, Korea. In the semi-final match against Paul, both players were deadlocked at 246 and the underdog escaped with a 40-36 win in roll-off.
The women's finale resulted in a closer match but was even lower scoring. Fung earned her third Tour title after Indonesia 2003 and Hong Kong 2001 with a 162-161 win over newcomer Syakirah Yeoh, Malaysia.
