Rivera, Posadas earn Philippines' Bowling World Cup spots

2010PHIBiboyRivera.jpg2010PHIApplePosadas.jpgPhilippines national team members Biboy Rivera (pictured left) and Apple Posadas (right) swept their opponents in best-of-three games title matches, two-games-to-none, to win the men's and women's Bowling World Cup eliminator Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Mall of Asia Center in Pasay City.

The winners earned the Philippines' spots in the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup which will be held from Oct. 15-24, 2010 at Bowling de Provence in Toulon, France.

Rivera, 36, who won the gold medal in Masters match play at the 2006 Men's World Championships in Korea with a 300 game in the deciding fifth game against Germany's Achim Grabowski, topped Paulo Valdez in the men's title match 243-235 and 249-175.

2010PHILaraPosadas_small.jpg2010PHIKrizziahTaborra_small.jpgPosadas' feat came at the expense of her of her younger sister, Lara. Apple easily defeated Lara Posadas (left) in the women's title match 188-157 and 247-177.

In the semifinals, Valdez swept Joonee Gatchalian, 2-0 (203-202, 238-212) while Lara Posadas went the distance against Krizziah Tabora (right), 2-1 (185-175, 190-199, 187-178) to advance to the finals.
