Revised PBA World Series of Bowling broadens international appeal

Special installation to be built in South Point Arena for four days of ESPN television finals

2011PBAWSOBLogo_small.jpgThe PBA has unveiled a modified schedule for its third annual World Series of Bowling Nov. 4-20 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas to broaden the event's world-wide appeal. "In its continuing efforts to raise the standards for the World Series, PBA's leadership discussed the event with a large number of players during International Bowl Expo. Based upon their input, we have made a few revisions that will make the 2011 PBA World Series of Bowling even more exciting than we had originally planned," said PBA COO and Deputy Commissioner Tom Clark .

Parker Bohn III receives BPAA's Dick Weber Bowling Ambassador Award

ParkerBohn2011DWAmbassador_small.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III (pictured with wife Leslie) joined a short list of outstanding individuals who have been named recipients of the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America Dick Weber Bowling Ambassador Award during BPAA's annual meeting in Grapevine, Texas, on June 27. Bohn's contributions to the sport, on and off the lanes, exemplify the contributions made by the late bowling legend.

900 Global pulls off stunning upset to win GEICO PBA Team Shootout

Jaros sparks last-place qualifier to PBA Manufacturers Cup victory

2011GEICO900GlobalChampions_small.jpgSan Antonio, Texas-based 900 Global pulled off the biggest upset in the five-year history of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour's summer series special events, winning the Manufacturers Cup to conclude the GEICO PBA Team Shootout at 10pin bowling lounge. In the title match, 900 Global defeatd Ebonite International, 215-191, for the win worth $70,000. The finals of the annual summer-season team competition aired Sunday on ESPN, capping a series of 15 half-hour programs.

All roads lead to PBA Tournament of Champions in 2011-12 PBA Tour season

PBA’s signature event returns to its long-time home as the season finale

PBA1958Logo_small_0.jpgDuring the 2011-12 Professional Bowlers Association Tour season, for more than 12,000 PBA members, all roads will again lead to the PBA Tournament of Champions as its returns to its long-time position as the season’s concluding event. For more than 30 years, the PBA’s signature event provided a dramatic conclusion to the season, creating a powerful incentive for all PBA Tour players to win a title in order to qualify for the elite finale.

PBA World Series of Bowling returns to South Point Nov. 4-20

WSOB features new events, new concepts in ESPN coverage

PBAEst1958_small.jpgThe third annual Professional Bowlers Association’s World Series of Bowling will introduce new events and new concepts in ESPN coverage when it returns to South Point Casino, Hotel and Bowling Center Nov. 4-20. The PBA World Series of Bowling will include three events open to 2011-12 PBA Tour exempt players only, and four “open field” events which includes the PBA World Championship; the seventh WSOB event. All televised rounds will be conducted on specially-installed lanes in the South Point Arena Nov. 17-20.

2011-12 PBA Tour begins with World Series of Bowling and concludes with TOC

New season starts and ends in Las Vegas

PBA1958Logo_small_0.jpgThe Professional Bowlers Association World Series of Bowling returns for a third consecutive season, starting a new season of PBA competition that will culminate with the PBA Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas in April. The new season will get underway with the multi-event PBA World Series of Bowling Nov. 4-20 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas and it will end April 8-15 when the PBA Tournament of Champions returns to Red Rock Lanes.

Koivuniemi, Barnes, O'Neill, Belmonte nominated for 2011 Bowling ESPY

Fan voting continues through July 9; winners to be announced on ESPN July 13

2011BowlingESPY_small.jpgReigning PBA Player of the Year Mika Koivuniemi, PBA's newest triple crown winner Chris Barnes along with Bill O'Neill and Jason Belmonte have been nominated for ESPN's "Best Bowler ESPY" for 2011. ESPN recently announced nominees in 33 categories and fan voting is now underway through 11:59 p.m. ET on July 9. The winners will be announced during the 18th annual ESPYs on Wednesday, July 13 from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Rash fined, Belmonte responds to GEICO PBA Team Shootout "Bottlegate" incident

The incident took place during the GEICO PBA Team Shootout, which will air on ESPN June 25-26 and July 2-3. Rash unleashed profanity-laced remarks at Belmonte that resulted in the misconduct fine.

Defeats Hugh Miller in dramatic title for his third title of the season

Mohr defeated Hugh Miller (r.) of Seattle 223-215, at Harvest Park Bowl in the dramatic title match that wasn’t decided until the 10th frame.

Hugh Miller shoots into lead in PBA Senior Northern California Classic

Rolls two 300 games and averages over 264 in round two quaöifying

2009PBASHughMiller_small.jpgHugh Miller (pictured left) of Seattle, bowled two 300 games and averaged 264.6 in Tuesday's second round to take the lead in the PBA  Senior Northern California Classic Tuesday at Harvest Park Bowl. Miller, who spent more than 17 seasons competing on the national tour but still bowls in an occasional senior tour event, finished with a 3,961 16-game overall pinfall total which included 2,117 in Tuesday's round on games of 238, 237, 300, 268, 279, 248, 300 and 247. The top 32 from the 100-player field advanced to Wednesday's match play rounds.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. leads after first round in PBA Senior Northern California Classic

2011PBAS04WalterRayWilliams2_small.jpgWalter Ray Williams Jr. (pictured left) had no problem shaking off his loss to Ron Mohr in the championship match of the PBA Senior U.S. Open last Friday, taking the first-round lead in the PBA Senior Northern California Classic Monday at Harvest Park Bowl. With the help of a 300 in the first game of the round, Williams finished with a 1,988 eight-game pinfall total adding games of 205, 259, 248, 225, 215, 259 and 277 for a 248.5 average. Eight-game qualifying continues Tuesday after which the 100-player field will be cut to the top 32.

Qualifying fourth for the stepladder finals, Mohr defeated PBA Hall of Famer and top qualifier Walter Ray Williams Jr. (r.), 246-189, in the championship match to also win his fifth career Senior Tour title.

Rhino Page (l.) of Dade City, Fla., went 9-3 in match play and posted a 20-game total of 5,025 pins to record a 125-pin victory over Stevie Weber of Chalmette, La., in the PBA South Region Fran Bohlman Memorial Open in Milton, Fla. on June 12. Former exempt player Derek Sapp (r.) of Keokuk, Iowa, defeated Nathan Michalowski of Burlington, Wis., by 18 pins on June 12 to win the PBA Central/Midwest Region's Terre Haute Open.

Williams expands lead as PBA Senior U.S. Open heads into final day

201011PBAWalterRayWilliams_small.jpgWalter Ray Williams Jr. (pictured) of Ocala, Fla., continued his march toward becoming the first player in PBA history to win both the U.S. Open and Senior U.S. Open titles Thursday, expanding his lead as the field of 24 match play finalists headed into Friday's final rounds of the PBA Senior U.S. Open. The remaining 24 players will return Friday for two additional eight-game round-robin match play rounds. After 51 games, the top four bowlers will advance to the stepladder finals at 3:30 p.m. Pacific.

PBA legend heads after third round as field is cut to the top 56 players

Williams moved into the third round lead of the PBA Senior U.S. Open presented by the Suncoast at the Suncoast Bowling Center Wednesday with a 4,183 18-game pinfall total (232.3 average). The 51-year-old Williams hopes to become the only player in PBA history to win U.S. Open titles on both the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour and Senior Tour.

Bo Goergen moves to the top in second round at PBA Senior U.S. Open

2010USBCOCBoGoergen_small.jpgBowling in just his third PBA Senior Tour tournament, Bo Goergen (pictured) of Sanford, Mich., averaged 222.3 for six games Tuesday to move into the second-round lead of the PBA Senior U.S. Open presented by the Suncoast at the Suncoast Bowling Center. After finishing second with a 1,424 six-game pinfall after Monday's first round, Goergen bowled 1,334 in Tuesday's second round for 2,758 and an overall average of 229.8 to lead first-round leader Kevin Croucher of Grants Pass, Ore., in second with 2,731.

Kevin Croucher leads after first round in PBA Senior U.S. Open

55-year-old proprietor hoping recent work on his game pays off in season's first major

2010PBASKevinCroucher_small.jpgKevin Croucher (pictured) of Grants Pass, Ore., averaged 239.6 to lead the 227-player field after first-round qualifying Monday in the PBA Senior U.S. Open presented by the Suncoast at the Suncoast Bowling Center. Croucher, winner of the 2007 Senior Decatur (Ill.) Open for his lone Senior Tour title, had a 1,438 six-game pinfall total. In what is considered the toughest test on the Senior Tour, all players will bowl two more six-game qualifying rounds Tuesday and Wednesday after which the field will be cut to the top quarter.

Williams will try to defend his title against a field of approximately 250 players at Suncoast Bowling Center June 12-17. Playing two entirely different lines in the championship match last year, the PBA Hall of Famer won the 2010 Senior U.S. Open for his first major Senior Tour title.
