Barnes, Jones, Kulick to represent U.S. in WTBA World Singles Championships

International PBA Tour competitors who are bowling for their home countries in the event include: Canada's Dan MacLelland, Colombia's Andres Gomez, England's Stuart Williams and Finland's Osku Palermaa.

MOTIV Bowling upgrades Registered Product Company status for 2012-13 PBA Tour season

To keep pace with its growth as a bowling ball manufacturer, MOTIV Bowling has upgraded its involvement as a PBA Registered Product Company to "Full Registration" for the 2012-13 season. Previously, MOTIV had been a Limited Registered company, but upgraded its involvement to "Full" to take advantage of PBA's expanded domestic and international activities. MOTIV's player staff for 2012-13 will include three-time PBA Tour champion Dick Allen, Lee Vanderhoef, Brett Spangler and Jake Peters

A new country heard from for World Series of Bowling IV

Among the early entries for PBA World Series of Bowling IV, set for Nov. 2-11 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, is Iceland's Hafthor Hardarson (pictured), the first player from his country to enter the annual multi-event international bowling showcase that will kick off the PBA Tour's 2012-13 season. Entries received to date by the PBA office include players from nine countries - Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, the U.S. and Venezuela in addition to Iceland. World Series III drew players from a record 15 countries.

Regional Animal Pattern series sends 35 players to PBA World Series of Bowling IV

Average entries show increase in experimental tournament series

201112PBALogo_small.jpgThe PBA's experimental regional "animal pattern" championship series has produced 35 paid entries into PBA World Series of Bowling IV and a significant increase in the average number of entries in PBA Regional tournaments between March and August of 2012, John Weber, PBA Director of Regional and Senior Tours, announced Monday. The inaugural animal pattern series featured Cheetah, Viper, Scorpion and Chameleon Championships in each of the PBA's seven regions.

Hall of Famer Dave Soutar (r.) of Bradenton, Fla., who retired after more than 50 years of competing on the PBA Tour and Senior Tour, was voted the winner of the Senior Tour's Dick Weber Sportsmanship Award.

Big finish gives Rash West Region Chameleon title

Sean Rash (pictured) of Montgomery, Ill., rolled games of 279 and 300 in his final two matches to win the PBA West/Northwest Region Chameleon Don Johnson Memorial presented by Brunswick at fourth Street Bowl in San Jose, Calif., on Sunday, Sept. 2, by 69 pins over Jeff Frankos of Daly City, Calif. When do you have to throw 13 strikes for a 300 game? When you start the game on the wrong lane, and have to throw the shot over…which is what Rash did in his final game.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. wins his 31st PBA Regional title for 85th overall PBA title

14-year-old Kamron Doyle adds to youthful résumé by finishing third

It was Williams' 31st standard PBA Regional title and 85th overall PBA title. He eliminated Doyle in the semifinal, 226-214.

PBA unveils new Regional Players Invitational program for 2012-13

Closer-to-home championship events offer prize funds in excess of $25,000; provide unique incentives, opportunities for PBA members

201112PBALogo_small.jpgThe Professional Bowlers Association has created a new PBA Regional Players Invitational series for the 2012-13 season that will give all PBA members an opportunity to qualify for a prestigious new regional championship event closer to home, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark announced Tuesday. The new tournament series, which will be conducted in the PBA's East, South, Central, Midwest, Southwest and joint West-Northwest Regions and will be webcast live, exclusively on PBA's online bowling channel, Xtra Frame.

PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber set to join PBA50 Tour in 2013

PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber (pictured) of St. Ann, Mo., is ready to join the PBA50 Tour after celebrating his 50th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Weber, the winner of 35 PBA Tour titles (fourth on the all-time list) and a record 47 PBA Regional titles, is the only player in history to win five U.S. Open titles. He has bowled in 726 PBA Tour tournaments in a career that began at age 17 in 1979 - when he became the youngest player ever to win a PBA Regional title. Next year's PBA50 Tour schedule will be announced later in the fall.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. sweeps 2012 PBA Senior Tour Statistics

After dominating the season statistical categories for more than two decades on the PBA Tour, PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. (pictured left) of Ocala, Fla., is doing more of the same as a member of the PBA Senior Tour. Williams, who won his first PBA Senior Player of the Year title in a points contest designed specifically for that purpose, also led all 50-and-older players in competition points, average and earnings as the nine-event 2012 season came to an end Tuesday, Aug. 14, in Decatur, Ill.

Mohr, the 2011 and 2009 Senior Player of the Year, defeated three-time Senior Tour titlist Harry Sullins of Chesterfield Twp., Mich., 243-181, in the championship match.

Dave Soutar concludes career after more than half-century of PBA competition

2012PBAS09DaveJudySoutar2_small.jpgProfessional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Dave Soutar (pictured with wife Judy) ended his career in PBA competition in appropriate fashion during the final day of qualifying of the PBA Senior Decatur Open presented by Brunswick Monday — before a big crowd and throwing three strikes in the 10th frame of his last game. It brought an end to more than a half-century of PBA competition for the 72-year-old who won 18 titles on the PBA Tour and seven on the Senior Tour.

Harry Sullins tops qualifying in PBA Senior Decatur Open Senior

Sullins, a three-time Senior Tour titlist, ended qualifying with a 3,663 16-game pinfall total (228.9 average) to lead 32 players advancing to Tuesday's match play rounds. The top eight qualifiers receive two byes for match play.

PBA Senior Tour to become 'PBA50 Tour' in 2013

New name will celebrate age milestone as new stars enter Tour

PBA50Logo_small.jpg The PBA Senior Tour will be re-named as the PBA50 Tour beginning with the 2013 season, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark announced today from the PBA Senior Decatur Open presented by Brunswick, the concluding tournament of the 2012 Senior Tour season. "The word 'senior' is outdated and the title PBA50 more accurately reflects the vibrancy of the players and our competition in this age group," Clark said. The change in name is underscored by the continuing stream of stars to the over-50 circuit.

The fourth annual multi-event program is open to PBA "full" members and PBA International members. The $750 entry fee includes entry into the PBA Cheetah, Viper, Scorpion and Chameleon Championships along with the PBA World Championship. The field is limited to the first 240 entrants.

Bob Learn Jr. (l.) of Erie, Pa., averaged 229.6 Wednesday to maintain his lead after the second round of the PBA Senior South Shore Open. The Senior Tour rookie led first-round qualifying with a 1,874 eight-game pinfall total and followed it up with 1,837 in Wednesday's round for a 3,711 16-game overall total (231.9 average) holding a narrow six-pin lead over Hall of Famer Wayne Webb (right) of Columbus, Ohio, in second with 3,705.

2012PBASBobLearn_small.jpgPBA Senior Tour rookie Bob Learn Jr. (pictured) of Erie, Pa., averaged 234.2 to take the first round lead Tuesday in the PBA Senior South Shore Open presented by DV8 at Olympia Lanes. The 50-year-old Learn opened qualifying in the next-to-last tournament of the season with an 1,874 eight-game pinfall total with games of 225, 259, 237, 243, 223, 234, 228 and 225. Eight-game qualifying continues Wednesday after which the field of 124 players will be cut to the top 32 who will advance to match play.
