PBA Rookie of the Year, Jason Belmonte (r.), led the third block with 1443 (240.50) to jump into second place with 4138. The top 8 players will determine the champion this afternoon in an 8-game round robin match play round on dual lane condition.
Kamilla Kjeldsen (pictured), Denmark, who won the inaugural EBT Masters in 2008, posted the field-best 1380 six-game series on dual lane condition, a 230.00 average, to lead the top 8 women into round robin match play with 3981 pinfall total (221.17). Priscilla Maaswinkel, Netherlands, who led the field after two blocks on short and on long oil, was second with 1319 but slipped to second place with 3930 (218.33). The top 8 players will determine the champion this afternoon in an 8-game round robin match play round on dual lane condition.
Priscilla Maaswinkel (pictured), Netherlands, was the sole woman with two 1300-plus series on day one qualifying en route to take the lead in the women's European Bowling Tour Masters 2009. Maaswinkel had 1306 on short and 1305 on long oil to lead the field of 16 women with 2611 12-game total (217.58). Defending champion Kamilla Kjeldsen is mere 10 pins behind in second place with 2601. The 16 players return on Tuesday for the third and final six-game block on dual lane condition to cut to the top 8, who will determine the champion in round robin match play.
Remy Ong (pictured) from Singapore took the lead after the first day of qualifying in the European Bowling Tour Masters 2009. The lefty outaveraged his nearest competitor by more than eight pins with 2899 16-game total and an average of 241.58. Places 2-4 belong to fellow lefties Paul Moor, England (2800), Peter Ljung, Sweden (2791) and Mads Sandbækken, Norway (2698). The 15 players return on Tuesday for the third and final six-game block on dual lane coondition to cut to the top 8, who will determine the champion in round robin match play.

U.S. $40,000) and to seal the victory in the 2008 European Bowling Tour women's rankings. Barrett, who won his second men's ranking title this season en route to finish second to ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, received 15.000 Euro for second place. Remy Ong, Singapore and Jason Belmonte, Australia pocketed 5.000 Euro each for third and fourth place, respectively.
The championship match of the Ebonite English Open was an all-women affair with current EBT ranking leaders Nina Flack, Sweden, and Kirsten Penny (pictured), England, facing off. Second seeded Flack won the high-scoring first game of the best-of-three games match, 234-232. 12th seeded Penny, who started this morning at 8 a.m. in Final Round One, ended the day 13 and a half hours and 21 games later, with back-to-back victories, to secure the title and the 5.000 British Pounds top prize. With his 9th place finish in the men's ranking in Nuneaton (15th overall), Osku Palermaa, Finland, has successfully defended the men's EBT ranking title. 
Formula One driver Robert Kubica, Poland, came to Austria to compete in the 2008 Columbia 300 Vienna Open. Kubica, who won the Grand Prix du Canada in Montreal and has two second-place finishes and three third-place finishes this year, advanced to the finals eventually finishing in 63rd place. In an interview on Friday morning, the 23-year-old told Bowlingdigital editor Herbert Bickel how he started with bowling, why he prefers to bowl without using his thumb, about comparisons between Formula One and bowling, and why he has little doubt that bowling is a sport.
Osku Palermaa from Finland defeated his compatriot and fellow Finnish national team member Petteri Salonen, 235-227, en route to win the title and the 8.000 Euro top prize in the inaugural Ebonite Lahti Open at Lahti Bowl in Lahti, Finland. With the victory, Palermaa widened his lead in the European Bowling Tour ranking,. Salonen pocketed 4.000 Euro for second place, while Petri Mannonen, Finland, and Patricia Luoto, Germany, received 2.000 Euro each for finishing third and fourth. 
Former World Games champion and long-time German national team member Patricia Luoto (left) defeated Martin Paulsson, Sweden, 224-201, to win the 6th Columbia 300 Vienna Open Sunday afternoon at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. The wife of former World Champoion Mika Luoto, Finland, became the 10th women to win an European Bowling Tour event and the first who won the title in the Vienna Open. Luoto Pocketed 6.000 Euro for accomplishing the feat and earned 100 points for the European rankings as the Vienna Open is one of the Tour's "majors".
The Vienna Open was the 14th stop of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Major". The VO was held from Sep. 30 - Oct. 5, at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria, and drew 278 players from 26 countries. 228 men and 50 women competed for total prize money of 65.630 Euro or about 90,000 dollars.
