In the ladies event, Zara Glover (r.) won her fourth title of the season shooting 2350 (213 average).

More than 700 players participate in 16th European Senior Bowling Championship

2007ESBCMastersMenTop3_small.jpg 745 players representing 19 European countries participated in the 16th European Senior Bowling Championship at five bowling centers in Sicily, Italy from June 23-29, 2007. Hildegard Kuhn, Italy (left) won the Women's A finals, while Helena Karkkainen, Finland and Sonja Östlund-Carlsson, Sweden earned the gold medal in Categories B and C, resp. The men's Masters champions were (l-r) John de Vries, Netherlands (A), Giovanni la Bianca (B) and Enrico Canevari (C), both Italy.

2006EBT18OskuPalermaa_small.jpg 2007AOKirstenPenny_small.jpg With only a handful of top-ranked bowlers participating in the 2007 Malta Open Championships, the 11th tournament of the European Bowling Tour, the top 5 in the men's and women's European rankings remained unchanged. Osku Palermaa (l.), Finland, and Kirsten Penny (r.), England continued to lead. Malta Open champions Stuart Williams, England, and Ghislaine van der Tol, Netherlands, moved into 6th and 7th place, respectively.

Brunswick Euro Challenge moves from Greece to France

BECLogo_small.jpg Europe's richest bowling tournament and one of the European Bowling Tour's "Majors", the 90.000 Euro Brunswick Euro Challenge, will move from Thessaloniki, Greece to France in the year 2008. The 2008 BEC will be held from March 7-16, 2008 at Plaza Bowling in Saint-Maximin. The 28-lane Brunswick-equipped bowling center is located about 40 km north of Paris at the Route A1 and approx. 25 km from Roissy-Charles De Gaulle International Airport.

Mol survives late challenge to win Slovakia Open

2007SLVRoelMol2_small.jpg Roel Mol (pictured), Netherlands maintained a slim 5-pin lead over Mariusz Musialik, Poland in the position round en route to win the Slovakia Open and the 2.500 top prize. Mol finished with 1908 pinfall total including bonus, while Musialik settled for second place with 1903 and pocketed 1.000 Euro. Third place belonged to Swede Christian Karlsson with 1829, worth 700 Euro. Marek Husár was the top-ranked Slovakian player in fourth place with 1819.

Greek TV channel sacrifices EYC Bowling Show to give political discussion overtime

ERTWorldLogo.jpg 2007EYCLogo_small.jpg Al those, who were waiting for the 30 minute TV special with the highlights of the 2007 European Youth Championships on Greek satellite channel ERT on Monday, experienced a huge disappointment. All they could follow was a live political discussion (in Greek), which did not finish on time but took half an hour longer.

2007 Danish Masters has been cancelled

2007EBTLogo_small.jpg Gert Nielsen, organizer of the Danish Masters Classic, the 14th stop on the 2007 European Bowling Tour, has announced the tournament scheduled for August 3-12 has been cancelled. As in 2005, when the tournament was off the EBT schedule, Nielsen cited a lack of participants as the main reason. After the Viernheim Open and the Kungsbacka International, this is the third event and the second "major" tournament that disappeared from the EBT schedule during the season.

Williams and van der Tol prevail in Malta

Williams, who won the World Ranking Masters last month, defeated his compatriot and No. 1 seed Nick Froggatt by the closest possible margin, 225-224, to earn the 4.400 Euro top prize. Van der Tol, seeded second, topped No. 1 seed Mai Ginge Jensen, Denmark, 198-191, for the women's title, worth 3.000 Euro. ##

Williams blasts through knockout rounds to cruise to PTBC title in Bromborough

2007BTE07KendallWilliams_small.jpg After a slow start in qualifying, a lowly 19th place, Stuart Williams (right) blasted through five knockout rounds averaging 233 over 13 games to take the PTBC title at the Bowl in Bromborough. In the championship match in best-of-three games format, Rob Kendall (left) beat Williams in the final first game 227-196, but Williams replied with 234 and 247 to take the title.

Nine countries to participate in bowling event at First European Sport Games

UKRBowlingFederationLogo.jpg 2007ESGLogo_small.jpgAs earlier reported, Igor Kononenko, President of the of All-Ukrainian Sports Tenpin Bowling Federation has announced that Kiev (Kyiv), capital and largest city of the Ukraine, will host the First European Sport Games from July 19 through 25, 2007.  Participating countries in the bowling event are: Belarus, Belgium, England, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova and Ukraine.

Just recently however Kegel has shifted that responsibility to Kegel Master Technician Don Agent. I have also been the liaison with the European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF) and their highly successful European Bowling Tour (EBT) which I will continue to do as well as some other sporting responsibilities.

2007EBT10Top4_small.jpg Pasi Uotila from Finland defeated Maarten Pittens, Netherlands, 202-195 to win the European Bowling Tour's 10th stop, the Storm Dutch Open 2007 at Dolfijn Bowling in Scheveningen, Netherlands and the 10.000 Euro top prize. Pittens sidelined current European ranking leader Osku Palermaa, Finland, in the semis, 229-226, while Uotila eliminated Peter Smits, Netherlands, 244-210. Dane Kamilla Kjeldsen won the women's rankings.

United World Games 2007

Brunswick Bowling Center Hernals in Vienna, Austria (June 28-July 1, 2007)

2007UWGLogo_small.jpg Due to the massive interest and the enormous demand the Organizing Committee of the United World Games has decided to hold the 2007 UWG in two Austrian cities - Klagenfurt and Vienna. With more than 1,500 athletes from the United States having registered already, a record number of participants is almost guaranteed. The bowling event will takes place at the Brunswick Bowling Center Hernals (Posthalle) in Vienna.

Ainge and Barrett win Scott Banks Memorial singles titles

2007BTE06DominicBarrett_small.jpg 2007BTE06NickyAinge_small.jpg The annual Scott Banks Memorial at AMF Leeds produced a new winner for Team England in the ladies event, as Nicki Ainge not only won the maximum ranking points for her score over 10 games (2124), but also held off all challengers in the round robin. Mike Quarry bagged max points in the men's division but finished third after the round robin. Dom Barrett (right) and Steve Thornton battled for the crown with Barrett succeeding by 21 pins.

Konsteri beats Rash to win Brunswick Aalborg International 2007

US$13,450). Konsteri had an 8-pin lead after the first game (227 to 219) and sealed the victory with a 205-197 win in game #2.

The vids feature PBA champion Mika Koivuniemi, PBA exempt bowler Michael Fagan, World Ranking Masters champions Kimmo Lehtonen and Stuart Williams, World Cup Champion Osku Palermaa, American Tim Mack, just to mention a few. Verbruggen ends four-year drought in Paraske Cup

2007EBT08FaganVerbruggen_small.jpg Belgian Gery Verbruggen (r.) defeated PBA exempt bowler Michael Fagan (l.), 236-201, in the title match of the 2nd Paraske Cup, the 8th stop of the 2007 European Bowling Tour to win his eighth career EBT and the 12.000 Euro top prize. It was the first victory on the Tour for the 4-time EBT ranking champion (2000-2003) since the Danish Masters in 2003. In the semis, the lefty ousted PBA super Star Mika Koivuniemi, 219-194, while Fagan eliminated qualifying winner Jean-Marc Lebon, Belgium, 218-181.

Kirsten Penny, England, and Osku Palermaa, Finland, finished second and 15th in their respective ranking division to widen the lead to 79 and 27 points, resp. Paraske champion Gery Verbruggen jumped into 13th place while Martina Beckel, the highest positioned woman in Belgium maintained her third place.
