Shockers headline Peoria Sectional

Top four teams will advance to the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

200910WSUShockers_small.jpgAfter finishing their regular season last weekend, the WSU Shockers quickly found out that they will be traveling to Peoria, Ill. to compete in the Peoria Sectional, March 13-14. Both the men and women (pictured) will be competing in the same sectional which features 17 teams in the men's division and 18 in the women's. The top four teams from each will advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center in El Paso, Texas on April 14-17.

North Dakota bowler rolls first 300 of 2010 USBC Open Championships

2010USBCOCBarryZimmerman_small.jpgBarry Zimmerman of Grand Forks, N.D., has been on the verge of perfection at the USBC Open Championships before, and when he got a second chance to add his name to the record books, he took full advantage and rolled the first 300 game of the 2010 event. The 49-year-old right-hander started singles with 12 consecutive strikes and added games of 230 and 236 for a 766 series at the National Bowling Stadium on Monday night, which also moved him into the top spot in Regular Singles. Larry Thompson Jr. of Spring, Texas previously held the lead with 742.

12 year old girl bowls two honor scores in two days

20100309AshleyDunn_small.jpgAshley N. Dunn, Palmdale, CA, is no stranger to having success on the lanes at an early age. She has been racking up accomplishments well ahead of her age group since she began bowling at 8 years old. Ashley has now turned 13, but was determined to accomplish as much as possible while she was still 12. On February 8th and 9th Ashley rolled two games of 11 in a row, a 748 and 760 series, a 290 and 298 game, which helped her to a book average of 201 and a league average in session of 205. Not bad for a 12 year old girl!

Iowa bowler continues success at USBC Open Championships

2010USBCOCMattSmithJasonHale_small.jpgMatt Smith (l.) of Altoona, Iowa, has performed consistently during his USBC Open Championships career, and he excelled again in 2010, taking the lead in Regular Doubles and Regular All-Events at the National Bowling Stadium on Sunday. The 34-year-old right-hander started his 2010 tournament campaign slowly with a 609 series in team, but averaged 244 during doubles and singles on the way to a 2,073 all-events total. Smith partnered with Jason Hale (r.) of Des Moines, Iowa, for a 1,411 doubles total.

Wisconsin bowlers take lead in Doubles and Team All-Events at USBC Open Championships

The 37-year-old right-hander teamed up with Richard Voakes Jr. (left) of Oshkosh, Wis., to take the Regular Doubles lead with a 1,326 total Saturday, and the pair helped Super Bowl-Appleton of Kaukauna, Wis., into the top spot in Team All-Events with 9,165.

Former champions help Wisconsin team into lead at USBC Open Championships

Six years ago, Joseph Crocco Jr. and Mike Vasey of Racine, Wis., took home the Regular Doubles title at the USBC Open Championships, and now they hope to share that winning feeling with their teammates. The pair helped Central Saw and Mower into the Regular Team lead with a 3,081 effort at the National Bowling Stadium on Thursday and into the top spot in Team All-Events with a 9,017 total Friday.

International Bowling Museum and Hall Of Fame hosts Tourism and Travel Professionals

2010ITRC.jpgThe International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBMHF) hosted the fourth Annual Dallas/Fort Worth & Beyond Marketplace at the International Bowling Campus (IBC) March 1, 2010. Over 400 professionals from all over North Texas attended the 2010 DFW Tourism Council event to learn first-hand all of the new, exciting things being offered this spring and summer in Dallas/Fort Worth area.

UMES women's bowling team visit International Training Center

20100305UMESatITRC_small.jpgIn preparation for upcoming postseason events, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team paid a visit to the International Training and Research Center this week. The Hawks, the No. 2 ranked NCAA team nationally, trained with ITRC and Team USA head coach Rod Ross and assistant head coach Kim Terrell-Kearney (pictured left) at the International Bowling Campus. The team did a combination of classroom work and on-the-lanes training.

Six USBC bowlers still have a shot against the pros

2010PBAExperienceShowdownLogo_small.jpgAfter 15 days of online voting, six United States Bowling Congress league bowlers are closer to their chance of going on national television to compete against some of the top bowlers on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour. Fans cast more than 140,000 votes to determine the six bowlers who advanced in the PBA Experience Showdown, a unique competition for USBC Sport Bowling members. The winner of the qualifier will square off against the five winners of the 2009-10 PBA Tour Versatility Swing.

Texas bowler reaches top spot at USBC Open Championships

The 5-foot-7-inch right-hander fired games of 215, 248 and 279 to move into the top spot in Regular Singles with a 742 series. Mark Wolford, West Liberty, Ohio, and Mitch Bakies, Reynoldsburg, Ohio (l-r), rolled into the Regular Doubles lead shooting 1,323.

USBC announces new Verification Requirements for Pin Manufacturers

USBCLogow_small.jpgThe United States Bowling Congress has approved a new specification for bowling pin permit renewals. The change is designed to ensure that pins manufactured annually are comparable to the material of the originally approved pin. The new specification requirement will be enforced for the 2010-11 season and only affects manufacturers. "This specification will confirm that the materials within an approved pin do not change from year to year," USBC Vice President-National Governing Body Neil Stremmel said.

Wisconsin bowlers on top at USBC Open Championships

2010USBCOCJimLarsenButchLuther_small.jpgBowlers from Wisconsin won three titles at last year's United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, and Butch Luther (r.) of Franksville, Wis., and Jim Larsen (l.) of Racine, Wis., did their best to continue the Badger State's dominance at the 2010 event. The two right-handers teamed up to shoot 1,294 and take the Regular Doubles lead at the National Bowling Stadium on Saturday. Luther, 65, and Larsen, 44, made their second consecutive appearance together on the tournament lanes.

Bowlers overcome obstacles, find success at USBC Open Championships

The 25-year-old right-hander rolled games of 205, 241 and 172 to move into the top spot in Classified Singles with 618 and in Classified All-Events with 1,702. The Classified Doubles lead also changed hands Friday as Christine and Stephen Stewart combined to shoot 1,098.

WSU Shockers successful on lanes and in classroom

2007PITGordonVadakin_small.jpgWichita State University Shocker Bowling has been consistently known as the best bowling program on the lanes but many may not know that Shocker Bowling is the best in the classroom as well. Since Academic All-American's began in 1990 the Shocker Bowling program has produced 85, which is more than any other program in the nation. An Academic All-American is a student-athlete that carries a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. "Our program wants student-athletes that are wired to LEARN and WORK," said Shocker Head Coach Gordon Vadakin (pictured).

Norm Duke again leads US Bowler All-America class

2009ESPYNormDuke_small.jpgFor the ninth time in his legendary career, United States Bowling Congress and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Norm Duke (pictured) of Clermont, Fla., has earned a place on the US Bowler All-America team. Duke won three titles on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour in 2009 and was the leading vote-getter for the second consecutive year. Voters for the All-America teams used statistics from calendar year 2009 to make their decisions.

Sectional field announced for 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

USBCcollegiateLogo_small.jpgUSBC Collegiate has determined sectional-qualifying assignments for the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. Now, the nation's top men's and women's collegiate bowling teams can begin charting their courses toward the 2010 national title. The four sectional qualifiers will be held March 13-14 at AMF Parkway Lanes in Allentown, Pa.; Holiday Bowl-Brainerd in Chattanooga, Tenn.; Landmark Lanes in Peoria, Ill.; and the South Point Hotel and Casino Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

The 45-year-old left-hander and fellow southpaw Greg Benefield (l.r), Lee's Summit, Mo., moved into the Regular Doubles lead with a 1,255 total. Julie Wahman (r.), Dexter, Iowa, took the lead in Classified Singles.

UCF women, Webber men win 41st Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic presented by Columbia 300

2010HoosierClassicLogo_small.jpgThe University of Central Florida women and Webber International men claimed titles Sunday at the 41st Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic. The UCF women successfully defended the title they won last year at the event, defeating Webber's women's team 3-1 in the best-of-five championship match at Western Bowl. On the men's side, Webber dominated match play, sweeping through the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship match with 3-0 victories in each round. The Warriors dominated Robert Morris-Illinois in the title match.
