BOWL.COM, the internet platform of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), was able to sit down with the New Orleans Hornets point guard and avid bowler before the start of the 2009-2010 NBA season to talk about his love of bowling, family, charity and much more. Two Shockers Shoot 300 in WSU Sweep of Blue and Gold Classic

2008WYCJohnSzczerbinski_small.jpg2009EBT09JoshBlanchard_small.jpgWichita State University Shocker seniors Josh Blanchard (left, Upland, Calif.) and John Szczerbinski (right, North Tonawanda, N.Y.) achieved perfection last weekend at the Blue and Gold Classic in South Bend, Ind. as they both shot 300 during tournament play. In addition to their 300's both Blanchard and Szczerbinski were named to the All Tournament Team with Szczerbinski being named the MVP with a 1,234 five game series. Blanchard finished third with a 1,161 series.

UMES' Martha Perez three-peats as MEAC Bowler of the Week

Paula Vilas rolls fifth 300 game since NCAA adopted bowling

UMESLogo_small.jpgThree weeks, three All-Tournament Teams, three Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week awards. Junior Martha Perez (Bogota, Perez and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks are rolling, winners of their last three tournaments, UMES is the hottest college women's bowling team in the United States sporting an overall record of 80-18 and standing at the No. 2 spot in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) poll.

USBC Board approves bumper bowling awards, High School memberships

USBCLogow_small.jpgSpecial achievement awards for youth competing in bumper bowling leagues and a new membership product for high school bowlers were recently approved by the USBC Board of Directors. Bumper bowling league competitors rolling 50, 75 and 100 games and/or 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 series are immediately eligible to earn Bowlopolis emblems in those categories. The new USBC High School membership is available to those interscholastic high school bowlers who are not USBC Youth members.

Automated system to simplify entry process for USBC Tournaments

USBCLogow_small.jpgBeginning in February, the United States Bowling Congress will offer a new, fully-automated way to enter the USBC Open Championships online. The option will be available Feb. 1 for teams looking to enter the 2011 event, which will be held at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev. Beginning March 1, the automated system will be available for USBC Women's Championships team captains looking to enter the 2011 event slated for Syracuse, N.Y.

Two-in-a-row for University of Maryland Eastern Shore women

Lady Hawks go 10-0 at the Lady Bulldog Classic

UMESLogo_small.jpgIt wasn't a carbon copy of the previous weekend, but the story is still the same. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team went 10-0 at the Lady Bulldog Classic to claim first place. The win follows another first place victory the weekend before when the Lady Hawks won the Mid-Winter Classic in Arkansas. Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia) was also the star for the second straight week and.earned her second straight All-Tournament Team selection.

International Bowling Campus celebrates Grand Opening in Arlington

20100125IBCGrandOpeningAttendees_small.jpgUnder a clear blue sky and in front of an overflow audience, the International Bowling Campus officially became a reality Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, in Arlington, Texas. Grand Opening attendees listened to speakers from national and local elected officials to members of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau to national bowling leaders. They also watched a special time capsule be buried, took part in two ribbon cuttings and a ceremonial first ball roll.

UMES ends break with first place finish at Mid-Winter Classic

After more than a month off, Lady Hawks go 11-3 to win event

UMESLogo_small.jpgHaving more than a month off may make some teams a little rusty, but the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks used it to rest and hone their skills as they came back sharp, rolling to an 11-3 mark and first place in the 2010 Mid-Winter Classic. Three Hawks averaged over 215 and two were named to the All-Tournament Team as UMES dominated the 14 team field. Dominican Republic national team member, Paula Vilas of Santo Domingo, was the top average bowler of the event,

Women to bowl for $330,000 in combined prize funds

Bowlfor330000Flyer_small.jpgThe United States Bowling Congress announced that it has designed a program that will give women bowlers from across the globe an opportunity to compete for more than $330,000 in prize money and get expert coaching all in one trip to Texas next spring. Two custom travel packages were created to make travel easier for players interested in competing in the USBC Queens in El Paso, Texas, and the U.S. Women’s Open shortly after in Fort Worth, Texas, while also giving them a chance to receive expert coaching at the new International Training and Research Center.

Kim Terrell-Kearney named to Team USA coaching staff

Both coaches will also oversee the Junior Team USA program.

Nickolai named USBC Youth Volunteer of the Year

Holman, Terrell-Kearney elected to USBC Hall of Fame

2009WWCCKimTerrellKearney2_small.jpgMarshall_Holman_1780.jpgA pair of two-time U.S. Open champions, one from the 1980s, the other from the 2000s, have been elected to the USBC Hall of Fame in a worldwide ballot of the Superior Performance category. Marshall Holman (r.), 55, of Medford, Ore., and Kim Terrell-Kearney (l.), 44, of Grand Prairie, Texas, will join John Handegard and Betty Barnes, who were elected in November by the USBC Hall of Fame Committee in the Veterans and Meritorious Service categories, respectively.

Special museum exhibit to focus on The National Bowling Association

Located in a cove within the tournaments section of the Arlington, Texas, facility, the exhibit will not only tell the story of the TNBA but also show its more than 60-year history in pictures. "What's in this exhibit hits the mark," said Dr. Michael Boykins (pictured), TNBA's current president. "It will be an honor for TNBA to deliver this detailed information to the bowling world on such a prestigious stage."

Bowling Industry makes sports history with Grand Opening of International Bowling Campus

Industry unites under a single roof in Arlington, Texas complex

2009USBCInternationalBowlingCampus_small.jpgFor the first time in the 5,000-year history of the sport, the bowling industry will be united under one roof with the grand opening of the International Bowling Campus (IBC) in Arlington, Texas, an unprecedented event in sports history. The 100,000-plus square foot IBC complex will house more than 200 employees. At 2:30 pm on January 25, the campus will open its doors with a historic ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by a star-studded gathering of national and local celebrities.

SparePartz retail store will provide visitors a wide variety of apparel, collectibles and gifts

2009SparePartzRetailStore_small.jpgWhether people tour the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame or just visit the International Bowling Campus, they'll soon be able to stop by perhaps the most unique gift shop in the sport. SparePartz, a 900-square-foot retail outlet, will be located adjacent to the IBM/HF on the first floor of the building at 621 Six Flags Drive. Construction is moving at a feverish pace to have the shop open in advance of the Jan. 25 grand opening of the Campus.

USBC's first five years: Biggest Milestones

USBCLogow_small.jpgJoining the American Bowling Congress, Women's International Bowling Congress, Young American Bowling Alliance, USA Bowling and Bowling Inc. not only was one of the largest non-profit mergers in U.S. history, it proved to be one of the smoothest. The United States Bowling Congress officially began on Jan. 1, 2005 but didn't really become completely functional until Aug. 1 of that year. By the end of Year 5, it truly had become one voice for all bowlers in the U.S.

The first decade of the 21st Century has not been kind to America and likewise it has been a tough 10 years for the bowling industry in America. Bad things started to happen to America on 9/11 in 2001 and then came Katrina, the Iraq war, the greed of crooked American businessmen and politicians, the depression, the lost of major industries across the country and the heart rendering lost of so many jobs. Likewise, the 2000s were not kind to the bowling industry.

Blumenscheid, Russell named USBC Youth Ambassadors of the Year

The award recognizes USBC Youth bowlers for exemplary contributions in the sport of bowling, academic accomplishments and community involvement. Awarded annually to one male and one female bowler, each winner receives a $1,500 scholarship.
