Doyle, Dunn pace Teen Masters Grand Championships finalists

New York City's Grand Central Terminal hosts finals Aug. 5-8

2012TMAshleyDunnKamronDoyle_small.jpgTeenage sensation Kamron Doyle (r.) of Brentwood, Tenn., and former 14-Under champion Ashley Dunn (l.) of Palmdale, Calif., will lead the fields of four boys and four girls who will bowl in the 15th annual Teen Masters Grand Championships Aug. 5-8 inside Vanderbilt Hall in New York City's Grand Central Terminal. Also on Thursday, David Daniels of Sebring, Fla., and Adel Wahner of Las Cruces, New Mexico, captured the titles in the Boys and Girls 14-Under divisions.

Southern California Scholarship Program demonstrates support of SMART Fund

Transfers more than $475,000 in youth scholarship funds to SMART

USBCSMARTLogo_small.jpg In a demonstration of support for the SMART Corporation Fund, the Southern California Grand Prix Scholarship Foundation has transferred more than $475,000 in youth scholarship funds to SMART. The Foundation of the Bowling Proprietors Association of Southern California had previously managed the Grand Prix funds. Youth bowlers who earned scholarships through the Southern California Grand Prix competition may now access their funds through SMART.

Champions crowned at 2012 USBC Senior Championships

After two days and nine games of competition, 10 champions were crowned at the 2012 USBC Senior Championships on Wednesday at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev. Grace Jensen (pictured) of Goshen, Utah, had the steepest climb as she claimed her first USBC Senior Championships title in the 75 and older classification of the Women's Division by moving from sixth place into the lead in her final three games of competition. More than 375 male and female bowlers took part in the handicap singles event.

2012 USBC Open Championships concludes its 151-day run in Baton Rouge

More than 60,000 bowlers competed at Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, La. from Feb. 11 through July 10

2012USBCOCMattMcNielCharlesVashaw_small.jpgMatt McNiel (l.) made history at the Baton Rouge River Center this year, and now that the 2012 USBC Open Championships has ended its 151-day run, he can add two more titles to his growing resume. McNiel rolled a tournament-best 847 series to become the first bowler in the event's 109-year history with three 800s. The effort catapulted him and Charles Vashaw (r.) of Deephaven, Minn., to the Regular Doubles title. McNiel also grabbed the Regular All-Events crown.

Pepsi Youth Championships to have age-based Scratch Divisions starting in 2012-13

USBCYouthLogo_small.jpgThe Pepsi Youth Championships will undergo several exciting changes for the 2012-13 season, including new divisions and the move to scratch competition. The Pepsi Youth Championships will feature five divisions for both boys and girls – U6, U8, U12, U15 and U20 divisions – starting in 2012-13, and all divisions will use scratch scores. Previously, the Pepsi had divisions for 11 and under and 12 and over using handicap, and a scratch division for 12 and over.

2012 USBC Women's Championships comes to a close

Reno to host the Women's Championships and the USBC Open Championships in 2013, marking the first time both tournaments will be held in the same host city in the same year

Baker rolled a 784 series in doubles, 735 in singles and 707 in team to take the Scratch All-Events crown with a 2,226 total and also teamed with Elysia Current (r.) to win Scratch Doubles and tie for the top spot in Diamond Doubles with 1,480.

Road to 15th Teen Masters Grand Championships begins today in Cleveland

Freeway Lanes hosts qualifying, match play rounds in High School Boys and Girls, Under-14 Divisions

TeenMastersLogo118h.jpgThe road to New York City's Grand Central Terminal and the Grand Championships in the 15th annual Teen Masters gets underway today at Freeway Lanes in suburban Cleveland. After qualifying and match play rounds that continue through Thursday, the top four boys and top four girls in the High School Boys and Girls divisions will advance to the unique championship rounds on a specially-installed lane in Vanderbilt Hall inside New York's busy transit hub Aug. 5-8.

California teams grab lead at USBC Women's Championships

Duo ties for lead at USBC Women's Championships

2012USBCWCCoefficientofFriction_small.jpgJackie Wyckoff of Campbell, Calif., and her teammates only have a few more days to wait until they know if the score they posted at the 2012 USBC Women's Championships is enough to take home this year's Scratch Team title. Wyckoff helped Coefficient of Friction of Palo Alto, Calif. (pictured), to games of 1,160, 1,053 and 1,089 for a 3,302 total at the National Bowling Stadium on June 30. The effort is five pins better than previous leader, Together Once Again of Keller, Texas.

Bowling Combine sold out; coaches still have time to register

TheBowlingCombineLogo_small.jpgThe opportunity to have their skills evaluated at a state-of-the-art training facility and to meet with college coaches drew a sellout group of student-athletes to the Bowling Combine for College Prospects last summer. The program's successful debut resulted in more than 200 student-athletes submitting applications for the 2012 Bowling Combine, which will be held Aug. 7-11 at the ITRC in Arlington. While capacity was expanded this year, constraints will allow just more than 100 athletes to take part in the Bowling Combine.

Alabama youth bowler receives Annual Zeb Scholarship

2012ZEBScholarshipJarrodHicks_small.jpg Jarrod Hicks of Hueytown, Ala. (pictured), has been selected to receive the 2012 USBC Annual Zeb Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded each year to a USBC Youth member, who is in their junior or senior year of high school, has a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (4.0 scale) and has given back to their community through service. As a bowler, Hicks has been selected to the Greater Birmingham USBC Youth All-City Team the last three seasons and posted the highest average as a youth bowler in 2010.

Hall of Famer celebrates 60 years at USBC Open Championships

2012USBCOCLesZikes_small.jpg USBC Hall of Famer Les Zikes of Palatine, Ill., has a rich legacy at the USBC Open Championships, and he added to it July 2 when he became the 16th bowler in history to reach 60 years of tournament participation. The 77-year-old right-hander was joined at the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, La., by his family and friends as he added another line to his extensive resume. Zikes received a plaque, chevron and gold money clip to commemorate the milestone (pictured).

USBC Masters heading to North Brunswick, N.J., in 2013, 2014

Masters will be part of the WTBA World Bowling Tour for the third consecutive season in 2013

USBCMasters_small.jpgFor the first time since 1999, the United States Bowling Congress Masters will head east when the 2013 and 2014 events are held at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick, N.J. The USBC Masters, which has a history that dates to 1951, will take place Feb. 18-24, 2013, and on dates to be determined in 2014, at the 82-lane Brunswick Zone Carolier. In 1999, the Masters was contested in Syracuse, N.Y., which was the last time the event was held in the Eastern time zone.

Andrew Cain is re-elected USBC President

2012USBCOCAndrewCain_small.jpgThe United States Bowling Congress Board of Directors has re-elected Andrew Cain of Phoenix as USBC president. Cain has served on the USBC Board of Directors since 2007 and has worked on many key committees including Legal and Legislative, Finance, and Equipment Specifications. A bowler since age 6, Cain rolled his first 300 game at age 12, was a member of Team USA in 2002, 2003 and 2005 and was a member of Junior Team USA in 2001.

Team USA competition roster set for remainder of 2012

The United States' Chris Barnes (l.), Tommy Jones (r.), Kelly Kulick and Shannon O'Keefe have been selected to represent their country at the inaugural World Tenpin Bowling Association World Singles Championships in Limassol, Cyprus, from Sept. 18-25.

She teamed with Elysia Current (r.) of Ephrata, Pa., for the third-highest doubles score in history, 1,480, which was enough to take the top spot in Scratch and Diamond Doubles. Baker led the way with a 784 series and added 735 in singles and 707 in team to also take the lead in Scratch All-Events with 2,226, also the third-highest score in tournament history.

Wisconsin team now second at USBC Open Championships

Kentucky bowler makes run at top spot in Classified Singles

(pictured), started with games of 1,096 and 1,169 and had the top spot in Regular Team in sight with one frame to go at the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, La., on June 22. The group managed just three strikes in its final frame, however, and fell short, finishing with 1,111 and a 3,376 total, which is second overall. Nicholas J's Pro Shop 2 of La Crosse, Wis., has held the lead since March 5 with 3,401.

California's Pam Pancoast doubles up at USBC Women's Championships

Kelly, Pluhowsky roll into Scratch Doubles lead; Team from Hawaii shakes up standings

2012USBCWCPamPancoast_small.jpgPam Pancoast of Lomita, Calif., saved her best for last at the 2012 USBC Women's Championships as she rolled a 300 in her final game to take the lead in Scratch Singles and Scratch All-Events at the National Bowling Stadium. After a 730 series in team and 710 in doubles, she finished with 779 in Singles, just one pin ahead of previous leader Tammy Lewis of San Jose, Calif. Her 2,219 all-events score is the third-highest in 93 years of Women's Championships competition.

2012 Junior Gold sets tournament record with 2,088 sold spots

Junior Gold program has more than 4,000 members for the first time in the program's 15-year history

2012JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpgA record number of youth bowlers will take part in the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships presented by Brunswick next month in Indianapolis, and the USBC Junior Gold program already has established a membership record for the 2011-12 season. The 2012 Championships has sold 2,088 spots, shattering the previous record of 1,980 set in 2009. The Junior Gold program has more than 4,000 members for the first time in the program's 15-year history.

Dexter/USBC High School All-American team announced

2012DexterUSBCHSAllAmericanLoogo_small.jpg Zachary Fylling, a recent graduate of Bangor John Glenn High School in Bay City, Mich., is the fourth male athlete to become a repeat selection to the Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team. Fylling heads the list of 10 high school bowlers selected to the team for the 2011-12 school year. Each member of this year's Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team recently completed their senior year, and the team includes the 2012 USBC Male Youth Ambassador of the Year.

Louisiana bowler shoots first 300 since May 8

Andre Trahan from nearby Houma, La., rolled the 18th perfect game of the 2012 USBC Open Championships on June 19. The 25-year-old right-hander started doubles with a 162 game, but he then connected on 12 consecutive shots to record the first 300 at the Baton Rouge River Center since May 8. He finished with a 199 game for a 661 series and added 631 in singles and 604 in team for a career-best all-events total of 1,896, more than 350 pins better than his previous high.
