Wisconsin pair moves into second place at USBC Open Championships

2006USBCOpenSchureZuehlke_small.jpg In 1997, Paul Zuehlke of Oshkosh, Wis., teamed up with Rob Stueber to win the Regular Doubles title. On Sunday night at the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, Zuehlke had a new partner, but nearly turned in a repeat performance. This time, Zuehlke joined forces with Jon Schure of Ripon, Wis., to move into second place in Regular Doubles with 1,461 at the American Bank Center Exhibit Hall.

Left-handed duo takes Regular Doubles lead at USBC Open Championships

David Ferguson.jpg On the way to the Regular Doubles lead Saturday night, Pat McGainey Jr. of Baltimore rolled the second 800-series of the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships. The 27-year-old tractor mechanic posted games of 278, 289 and 237 for 804 and teamed up with Brian Bennett of Lewes, Del., to grab the top spot with 1,496. David Ferguson (pictured) of Austin, Texas, became just the third bowler in the 103-year history of the tournament to throw two perfect games in the same year.

El Paso bowlers anticipate USBC Women's Championships in 2010

2006USBCWomensChampionshipLogo_small.jpg While they enjoyed competing at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships in the Reno, members of the Shady Ladies team from El Paso, Texas, say the wheels are already in motion to bring the tournament to their own city four years from now. The 2010 Women's Championships will be held in 2010 at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center.

Wisconsin bowler back on top at USBC Open Championships

Rob Schuh.jpg Rob Schuh of Neenah, Wis., (left) became the first bowler to post a 700-series in all three events in this year's USBC Open Championships, shooting 727 in singles, 719 in team and 715 in doubles to take the lead in Regular All-Events with 2,161 Saturday. John Millet Jr. of Greenland, N.H. moved into the top spot in Classified All-Events with 1,851.

Two Reno Hall-of-Famers are teammates at USBC Women's Championships

2006USBCWomensChampionshipLogo_small.jpg Becky Tollefsrud and Kristy Gilbert, both in the Greater Reno Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame for superior performance and outstanding achievement, bowled as teammates in the USBC Women's Championships. One of the unique aspects of being a member of USBC is that while just a very few are able to gain recognition in the National USBC Hall of Fame, many are able to achieve fame locally and can showcase their talents on the national level by competing in the annual Women's Championships.

South Dakota bowler gets birthday present by taking Division 3 Singles and All-Events lead

2006USBCWomensChampionshipLogo_small.jpgNancy Galinat, a Harrold, S.D. bowler, moved into first place in Division 3 Singles at the USBC Women's Championships with a 638 series on games of 236, 216 and 186. Her singles series also helped her take the Division 3 All-Events lead with 1,592. A member of the Golden Girls team, Galinat came to Reno with one 12-pound bowling ball and her 148 average.

Success continues for Indiana bowler at USBC Open Championships

2006USBCOpenAquilaRussell_small.jpg Two weeks ago, Ronnie Russell (right) of Indianapolis emerged as the top seed after 27 games of qualifying at the Denny's World Championship, the third Major on the Professional Bowlers Association schedule. On Thursday night, the 26-year-old right-hander teamed up with Eric Aquila of Indianapolis to move into third place in Regular Doubles with 1,388.

Inaugural USBC Convention on the horizon

2,500 people expected to attend April 19-22 in Orlando, Fla.

2006USBCConventionLogo_small.jpg About 2,500 people are scheduled to "Experience the Magic" in Orlando, Fla., at the first United States Bowling Congress Convention to be held April 19-22 at the Orange County Convention Center. Attendees will include state and local bowling association delegates, athletes, bowling center management and general members. All will take advantage of the educational and social opportunities available as the organization conducts the business of bowling.

Changes will help meet demand for USBC Junior Gold Championships

2006JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg Due to increased demand, the United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships will undergo several changes for the 2007 event, including a new schedule that will allow for even more participants. Instead of having three consecutive days of qualifying, the three six-game blocks will be spread out over four days. The change allows for 1,728 participants in Buffalo versus 1,458 in Fort Lauderdale.

Hall of Famer uses experience to find success at USBC Open Championships

Troy Karnes.jpg Ernie Schlegel.jpg USBC Hall of Famer Ernie Schlegel, a member of the 1970 Classic Team champions and 1996 Masters winner, shot 765 in doubles Thursday and teamed up with Bob Porter to move into fifth place in Regular Doubles with 1,382. Troy Karnes (right) opened his third game in Classified Doubles with 11 consecutives strikes before leaving a solid 10-pin to finish with 299.

Former Team USA member finds success at 2006 Open Championships

Jennifer Petrick.jpg Last month, former Team USA member Jennifer Petrick of Canton, Ohio, made history when she became the first woman to roll a perfect game in a Denny's Professional Bowlers Association Tour event. This week, the 24-year-old right-hander was looking to find the same success at the 2006 USBC Open Championships. She was nearly perfect again, tossing nine consecutive strikes to start the second game of team Monday at the American Bank Center Exhibit Hall.

New Orleans woman takes lead in Classic Singles and All-Events at USBC Women's Championships

2006USBCWomensChampionshipLogo_small.jpg Shannon Duplantis of New Orleans moved into the lead in Classic Singles Division and All-Events Monday at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships. Captain of the Pine Tree Lanes team, Duplantis rolled a 707 in Classic Singles (190 average and over) with games of 289, 238 and 180. She combined the 707 with 577 in teams and 612 in doubles to register 1,896 to take the all-events lead as well.

Hall of Famer joins elite club at USBC Open Championships

2006USBCOpenLogo_small.jpg One of bowling's most elite clubs welcomed a new member Sunday night as United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer Don Ellis of Sugar Land, Texas, eclipsed 100,000 career pins at the USBC Open Championships. Ellis, 77, entered the American Bank Center Exhibit Hall needing just 432 pins to reach the milestone. With his wife watching from the stands as she has for the last 20 years, he threw a double midway through the third game of his team event to become the 10th member of the club.

Lost equipment arrives just in time for Women's Championships Classic Singles leader

2006USBCWomenAlishaCaballero_small.jpg Heading to the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships sponsored by the Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus in Reno from her home in Riverside, Calif. - a short flight, by all standards - Alisha Caballero brought three bowling balls along, only to have them misdirected by the airline. Destiny was on her side, though, when - after recovering her bowling equipment - Caballero moved into first place in the Classic Division Singles, with a 678 series, on games of 214, 187 and 277.

Defending champions just miss top spot at USBC Open Championships

Gail Myers.jpg Gail Myers Jr., of Monroe, Wis., earned an eagle last year as part of the Team All-Events champions and this weekend he and his teammates were looking to make it two-in-a-row. After shooting 3,254 to crack the top 10 in Regular Team on Friday night, Smith Barney 1 of Madison, Wis., returned Saturday for doubles and singles with its sights set on the top spot in Team All-Events, but fell two pins short with 9,849.

Sioux Falls bowler takes Women's Championships Classic Singles and Doubles lead

2006USBCWomensChampionshipLogo_small.jpg Laurie Clark moved into the lead in Singles and Doubles in the Classic  Division (190 average and over) at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships in Reno, Nev. Clark, from Sioux Falls, S. D., took the Singles lead on Friday when she fired a 644 with games of 226, 215 and 203. She and doubles partner Nicole VanDeventer, grabbed first place in Classic Doubles as well with 1,231.

Curt Rasnic of Fairborn, Ohio, missed the top spot in Regular All Events by one pin. Joseph Pirani (right) of Huntsville, Ala., posted the 12th perfect game of the 2006 Open Championships.

Defending champions ready to roll at USBC Open Championships

2006USBCOpenLogo_small.jpg Jeff Richgels of Oregon, Wis., has been a defending champion at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships twice before, but he's hoping this time the outcome will be a lot different. Richgels, part of the Regular Doubles and Team All-Events champions at the 2005 event in Baton Rouge, La., will be at the American Bank Center Exhibit Hall on Friday and Saturday looking to add to his collection of Open Championships hardware.

New Mexico becomes 17th state to add varsity bowling

Boys, girls program will begin in 2006-07 season as varsity activity

USBCLogoRedsmall.jpg The New Mexico Activities Association added boys and girls bowling as a varsity activity starting with the 2006-07 academic year. An estimated 35 schools throughout the state will field bowling teams next season. Bowling is the fastest-growing high school sport according to a recent survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Hawaii 'Rainbow Ladies' seek fun at USBC Women's Bowling Championships

But Hawaii's Na Wahine 'O Waianuenue team, bowling in the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, claim they don't think about their scores. "Our motto is to come out and have fun," says team captain Caroline Costa.
