The top four teams after six games preliminaries advanced to the finals on Sunday. The Koreans will clash with fourth-placed United States in the semifinals while Singapore, seeded second, takes on No. 3 England.

The Swedes led B Squad with 2631 total (219.25) to lead the field of 42 countries into the second block on long oil Saturday. Germany is second with 2514, USA third with 2512 and defending champion Korea is fourth with 2478. Only the top 4 teams will advance to Sunday's playoffs for the medals.

Asian countries in control of the leaderboard with Korea second, Chinese Taipei third and Malaysia fourth; Korea's Hwang Yeon-Ju targets gold medal in Girls All Events

The girls from Singapore (pictured) charged to a big 105-pin lead on the medium oil pattern over defending champion Korea on Friday morning followed by Chinese Taipei in third and Malaysia in fourth place. The top four teams after the second block on long oil will advance to playoffs on Sunday, July 1st.

Kim Yeon-Sang, Hwang Dong-Jun capture the third gold medal for South Korea in the fourth discipline; USA takes silver, England and Sweden receive bronze

Kim and Hwang both fired 253 in the title match to defeat Japan's Misaki Mukotani and Hiraku Takekawa, 506-420, to seal the victory. The Japanese girls earned the silver medal. Malaysia and Singapore, who lost the semifinal matches, shared the bronze medal.

Kelly Kulick claims third U.S. Women's Open title under the famed Reno Arch

Professional sports history was made Wednesday night when Bowling's U.S. Women's Open was held outdoors on Virginia Street under the iconic Reno Arch. Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., defeated Missy Parkin of Lake Forest, Calif., 170-160, to win the major title. Playing against the wind, dust and the setting desert sun, Kulick won her third career U.S. Women's Open title while overcoming some of the most challenging lane conditions in the history of professional bowling.

England's Lam, Crosby earn the No. 1 seed for the Boys Doubles Finals in Bangkok

England bowls South Korea in the semifinals; Sweden and USA square off in the other match

2012WYCLogo_small.jpg Christopher Lam and Elliot Crosby of England averaged 215.42 and toppled 2585 pins in the final Squad D on Thursday morning to earn the No. 1 seed for the Boys Doubles Finals at the 12th World Youth Championships. Previous leaders Kim Bolleby and Magnus Johnson Jr. of Sweden slipped to second place with 2551. Andrew Koff and Marshall Kent, USA, took third place with 2539 . Kim Yeon-Sang and Hwang Dong-Jun of South Korea rounded out the top 4 with 2532.

The duo posted 2551 (212.58) in Squad B including a WYC record 531 game. Squad A leaders Korea and Singapore slipped to second and third place with 2532 and 2519, resp. Dominic Buchmann and Christian Birlinger of Germany led Squad C with 2510 to move into fourth place. Squad D will conclude the preliminaries on Thursday morning. The top 4 doubles will advance to the finals.

PBA schedule is moving to calendar year from 2014; 14-month schedule includes up to 40 titles, five majors, expanded television and online coverage

Even the length of many TV shows will be increased. The PBA schedule will include two World Series of Bowling, five major championships, new Winter and Summer Swing open events with multiple titles at stake, and an estimated 15 World Bowling Tour stops that will award PBA Tour titles if won by PBA members and PBA International members.

Abu Dhabi to host WTBA World Championships for Men in 2014 and for Women in 2015

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, will host the 2014 WTBA World Men's Championships and the 2015 WTBA World Women's Championships, the WTBA announced Wednesday. The UAE last hosted the WTBA World Championships in 1999, which also took place in Abu Dhabi. The 2014 and 2015 events will take place in late August or early September each year at the Khalifa International Bowling Center. The hosts of the events will be Zayed Sports City and the Bid Committee of Abu Dhabi.

Malaysian duo takes No. 1 seed in Girls Doubles Finals at World Youth Championships

Teams from Singapore, Japan and Korea to challenge Malaysia for the title; all four spots go to Squad B teams, all four from Asia

After a slow start (394) into the six-game block on the medium oil pattern, Dayang Khairuniza and Jacqueline Sijore (r-l) of Malaysia fired games of 455, 439, 498, 414 and 414  to lead the field of 45 doubles from 24 countries with 2614 total and an average of 217.83.

Marshall Kent comes from behind to claim Singles gold at 12th World Youth Championships

Fourth-seeded American wins the title in Boys Singles; Shusaku Asato of Japan earns silver; Basil Low, Singapore and Ryu Ji-Hoon, South Korea, share bronze

The No. 4 seed eliminated No. 1 seed, Basil Low of Singapore, 196-188, to advance to the championship match. In the other semifinal-match, Asaoto, edged South Korea's Ryu Ji-Hoon by three pins, 200-197. Asato took the silver medal. Low and Ryu shared the bronze medal.

The top seeded Malaysian eliminated Cristina Rodriguez of Puerto Rico in the semifinals, 225-151, while second-seeded Kim equally easily sidelined Juliana Franco of Colombia, 203-146. Hee earned the silver medal. Rodriguez and Franco both received the bronze medal.

Low will be joined by Squad C leaders Shusaku Asato of Japan and Korea's Ryu Ji-Hoon, who took second and third place with 1387 and 1370, respectively. Junior Team USA's Marshall Kent beat out Sam Cooley of Australia for the fourth and last spot by the higher last game.

WTBA awards 2014 World Youth Championships to Hong Kong; 2016 to United States

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced the 2014 WTBA World Youth Championship will be contested in Hong Kong, while Lincoln, Neb., in the United States will host the 2016 event. The WTBA Executive Committee announced the selections at its meeting alongside the 2012 World Youth Championships this week in Bangkok, Thailand. The 2014 event is slated to take place in the first half of August 2014 while the 2016 event will be held in July.

Maximum four boys and four girls from each country will compete for medals in Singles, Doubles, Team, All Events and Masters match play. The Championships gets underway today with the official practice and the Opening Ceremonies. Real action starts Sunday with the Boys and Girls Singles preliminaries.

The 12th World Youth Championships will take place through July 3 at the Blu-O Paragon Bowling Center in Bangkok, Thailand. The championships for youth who have not reached their 21st birthday on January 1, 2012 will be held June 22 - July 3 in Bangkok, Thailand at the Blu-O Paragon Bowling Center. Canada's team earned the right to wear the 'red and white' at the 2011 National Championships held at Laurentian Lanes in the Greater Montreal, Quebec area.
