    Ledesma leads top 8 into Match Play in Manila

    Midtown Bowl in Manila, Philippines (May 7-13, 2008)

    2008ESMCTop8_small.jpg Raymond Ledesma, United States, leads the top 8 players (pictured) into round robin match play in the sixth Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge at Midtown Bowl in Manila, Philippines. Starting from scratch, Ledesma averaged 234.75 in Final Round Two and felled 1878 pins including three 258 games. The eight players bowl seven games round robin match play plus position round to cut to the top 4, who will determine the champion in a stepladder final. The winner will walk away with one million Philippine Pesos (approx. $23,500).

    Lynda Barnes BWAA Kegel Bowler of Month for April

    2008USBCQLyndaBarnes_small.jpg Lynda Barnes, Double Oak, Texas , has been named the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA) Kegel Bowler of the Month for April. Barnes won her second USBC Queens title 10 years after winning her first by defeating Amy Stolz of Castle Rock, Colo., 215-195 at Skore Lanes in Taylor, Mich. on April 30. The USBC Queens featured a field 337 of the top female bowlers in the world. Lynda added to her resume May 9 by winning the USBC Clash, which was not considered for her April honor.

    Two bowlers roll perfect games at USBC Open Championships

    2008USBCOCStevenTribbett_small.jpg 2008USBCOCStevenWaters_small.jpg Two young bowlers, each competing in the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships for just the second time, rolled perfect games at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Monday. The first 300 of the day came from Steven Waters (l.) of Northfield, Ohio, who finished his bowling season with 12 consecutive strikes and a 736 singles set. The second 300 belonged to Steven Tribbett (r.) of Vinton, Va., who sandwiched it between games of 208 and 185 for a 693 singles series.

    Croucher earns No. 1 seed for match play in Jackson

Croucher will look to repeat the feat Tuesday as he earned the top seed for match play and byes through the Rounds of 32 and 24 by leading the field with a 3,727 18-game pinfall in the 2008 PBA Senior Jackson Open at Airport Lanes. Sunday's leader Rohn Morton (r.) finished second with 3,700.

Record 71 ladies and 221 men started the championships on Thursday and Friday with the doubles event. Ingunn Øien teamed with Cathrine Bjercke to win the women's title while Olsen and Thomas Fagerstrøm captured the men's title.

    Four bowlers reach milestones at USBC Open Championships

    2008USBCOCLesBerry_small.jpg Longevity and dedication were the themes at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships this weekend as four bowlers reached personal milestones on the tournament lanes. Active participation leader, Les Berry of Wooster, Ohio, made his 65th tournament appearance Sunday and is in pursuit of the late Bill Doehrman and late USBC Hall of Famer Joe Norris, who each competed in 71 tournaments. The 92-year-old right-hander also inched his way closer to becoming the 11th member of the tournament's elite 100,000-pin club.

    Morton sets the pace after Day One in PBA Senior Jackson Open

    2008PBAS03RohnMorton_small.jpg Rohn Morton averaged 236.50 over his eight games Sunday to take the lead after the first day of qualifying in the 2008 PBA Senior Jackson Open at Airport Lanes. Morton was the No. 3 ranked player in the 2007 PBA Senior Point Rankings but came up empty in his search for his second career PBA Senior Tour title. His first and only title came in the 2001 National/Senior Doubles event. Qualifying continues Monday with two squads bowling another eight-game block each. The top 32 will advance to single elimination match play on Tuesday. The final two bowlers will roll-off for the $8,000 top prize Tuesday evening.

    Lynda Barnes wins Bowling's Clash of Champions

    2008CoCLyndaBarnesChampion_small.jpg When she won the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Queens on April 30, Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, proved she was one of the best female bowlers in the world. Now, she can argue she's one of the best bowlers regardless of gender. Barnes defeated four-time Denny's PBA Tour titlist Sean Rash of Wichita, Kan., 258-237 to win Bowling's Clash of Champions, a USBC event, in front of more than 1,500 fans at Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. The inaugural event, which aired on CBS Sports, featured a field of 16 champions of USBC events and the U.S. Open competing for a $100,000 prize fund.

    Baker, Chrisman, Hoagland, Williams elected to USBC Board of Directors

    2008USBCBoardHoaglandChrismanBakerWilliams_small.jpg Current USBC Vice President Darlene Baker, incumbent Barbara Chrisman and newcomers Nicholas Hoagland and Marci Williams were elected Saturday to the USBC Board of Directors at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. Lynda Barnes, Double Oak, Texas, and Del Ballard Jr., were elected by USBC athletes to serve as athlete representatives. All will begin serving Aug. 1. The 1,183 voting delegates disposed of the 25 proposed changes to the USBC general playing, league and tournament rules and bylaws in about one hour.

    Alta's Blind bowler rolls perfect game; Dale Davis, 78, scores first 300 at Century Lanes By Jake Kurtz

    20080507DaleDavis300_small.jpg A perfect game. The most difficult achievement a bowler can accomplish. It's even more impressive when a blind World War II veteran does it. That was the scene at Saturday evening's All-League Playoffs at Century Lanes in Alta. Dale Davis, just three months from his 79th birthday, his sight stolen years ago by macular degeneration, rolled 12 consecutive strikes in front of an enthusiastic and supportive crowd. The effort was the first-ever 300 game at Century.

The winners meet for the championship and a $50,000 prize.

    HKTBC releases revised schedule for 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships

    19 countries to participate in the event

    IMG HKTBCLogo.jpg ABFLogo_small.jpg The Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress (HKTBC) has released Bulltin No. 1 and a revised schedule for the 20th edition of the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships to be held from July 4th through 12th in Hong Kong, China. Vivien Fung, HKTBC Chairman, Asian Bowling Federation Honorary Life President and Head of the Organizing Committee has announced that 19 ABF member countries will participate in the prestigious championship. Bowlingdigital will report live from Hong Kong commencing with the 20th ABF General Assembly all the way through to the Masters finals on July the 10th.

    WTM champion Caminsky forced to postpone the upcoming Durban Cup

Therefore, it was a difficult decision for bowling center proprietor and South Africa No. 1 bowler, Guy Caminsky (pictured), to announce that the Durban Cup 2008, due for the May 17-18, is postponed. "We have had an unfortunate incident at Superbowling Gateway," said Caminsky the 2008 World Tenpin Masters champion. "A customer threw a ball into our ceiling and knocked off the sprinkler head for the fire sprinkler system."

Such an attitude adjustment was requested by United States Bowling Congress President Jeff Bojé (l.) during Friday's session of the USBC Annual Meeting at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium.
