Eoff defeats Larsen to bring 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup back to the United States

2008BWCChampionDerekEoff_small.jpg 2008BWCMartinLarsen5_small.jpg In one of the most exciting finals in the 44-year-history, top seeded Derek Eoff (left), United States, defeated No. 2 seed Martin Larsen (right), Sweden, two-games-to-one, to bring the men's title in the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup home to the United States for the second consecutive year. Eoff came back from a 0-1 deficit to win game #2 in roll-off after a 279-289 tie and the decisive game, 278-196. In the opening match, Larsen defeated third-seeded Zulmazran Zulkifli from Malaysia , 2-1.

2008BWCMenFinal_small.jpg Two-time Team USA member Derek Eoff (pictured) and long-time Swedish national Team member Martin Larsen battled it out in three games for the men's title in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico. Larsen won the first game, 229-221, and had a match ball in the second game which ended in a 279-279 tie. Eoff won the roll-off and went on to win the decider 278-196 en route to claim the second consecutive BWC title for the U.S. men. Yeong-Nathan beats Putney to win the women's title in at 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

First-ever victory for Singapore in the BWC history

2008BWCChampionJasmineYeongNathan_small.jpg The women's finals of the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico, featured two of the most experienced players, defending champion Ann-Maree-Putney (right), Australia, and Zara Glover, England, and a 20-year-old youngster, No. 1 seeded Jasmine Yeong-Nathan. When the dust had settled the Singaporean (left) won the first-ever World Cup title for her country firing two huge games (263, 298) to dethrone Putney, two-games-to-none. In the opening match, Putney flew past No. 3 Zara Glover of England, 2-0.

Yeong-Nathan wanted to win the first BWC title for Singapore while was trying to become the second woman to win back-to-back titles. The 20-year-old claimed the No. 1 seed for the three-player stepladder live TV finals starting Friday 12.30 p.m. at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico. In the opening match of the best-of-three games finals, defending champion Ann-Maree Putney (r.), Australia, takes on No. 3 seed, Zara Glover, England, for right to bowl Yeong-Nathan for the title.

Derek Eoff (l.), United States, secured the No. 1 seed for the live TV finals in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Friday at 2.30 p.m. at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico. Martin Larsen (r.), Sweden narrowed the gap to 26 pins after 40 games but had to settle for second place and meets No. 3 Zulmazran Zulkifli, Malaysia, in the opening match in best-of-three games format. The men's finals will be shown live in Mexico on TelMex and Europe on Eurosport2.

There were just two pins separating Helen Johnsson (left) of Sweden (8792) and Zara Glover (right) of England (8790) with the position round to go and they were playing each other. With 30 bonus pins for the win at stake, Johnsson could afford to tie the match while Glover must win to advance. To watch our video from the position round match

Park rolled a 237 final game to secure the 8th place in the women's Round of 24 with 6798 (212.44). Stott closed out with 238 to survive the men's cut by one pin with 6988 (218.38). Stott beats out Konsteri by one pin for 8th place in men's Round of 24

The 2-time Team USA member posted the sole 1900-plus series over 8 games averaging 237.88 en route to lead the top 8 men into round robin match play with 7403 pinfall total and an average of 231.34 over 32 games. Zulmazran Zulkifli, Malaysia, and Martin Larsen, Sween landed in second and third. Paul Stott (r,), Ireland finished with 238 to beat out Konsteri f233) for the 8th and final qualifying post by one pin, 6988 to 6987.

2008BWCZulmazranZulkifli300_small.jpg Zulmazran Zulkifli of Malaysia rolled the fifth 300 game in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup during the Round of 24 Thursday, No. 13, at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico. It was the 43rd perfecto in the history of the Bowling World Cup and the 34th by a man. Zulkifli became the second player of his country after Kenny Ang (1999) who joined the elite BWC 300 club. Zulkifli accomplished the feat in the second game of the Round of 24, the 26th game overall. To watch our video of Nikita's final frames

Yeong-Nathan felled 1782 pins in the eight-game Round of 24, an average of 222.75, to stay on top of the leaderboard with 7259 pinfall total and an average of 226.84 over 32 games. Defending champion Ann-Maree Putney (r.), Australia, narrowed the gap to 49 pins with 7210 (225.31). Jennifer Park, Canada, beat out Isabelle Sacco, France for 8th place by 8 pins, 6798 to 6790.

 Bigi Manico, the Swiss representative in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup is once again filling in for Bowlingdigital and interviewed Krista Pöllänen of Finland before the Round of 24. Krista, 35, is Finnish national team member since 1996, a multiple World and European Team Cup champion and who holds the women's record for six games in Finland with 1589 (264.83). She was in the top 4 of the women's division on all four day of the preliminaries and made the cut to the top 24 in 4th place with 5345 pinfall total and an average of 222.71. To watch our video

 Bigi Manico, the multiple Swiss champion and frequent Bowling World Cup traveler is again filling in for Bowlingdigital and interviewed Francois Sacco of France before the Round of 24. Francois, 38, is a multiple French national champion and together with his brother Thierry a long-time French national team member. He won the gold medal at the 2005 World Games in Mixed Doubles with his wife Isabelle Sacco (nee Saldjian). Francois made the cut to the top 24 in 8th place with 5260 pinfall total and an average of 219.17. To watch our video

Martin, 29, is a long-time Swedish national team member and 3-time time World Champion in Team (2) and Doubles. He led the men's division after the first day of the preliminaries, slipped to sixth place on Day two, moved up to fourth after day three and finished the preliminaries in third place with 5326 pinfall total and an average of 221.92.
