10th World Youth Championships
Boardwalk Entertainment Center in Orlando, Florida, USA (July 18-26, 2008)

The
2008 World Youth Championships featuring the top youth bowlers from around the world will be held from July 18 through 26, 2008. The 10th installment of this great biennial tournament will be hosted by the United States Bowling Congress, Boardwalk Entertainment Center and the city of Orlando, Florida. Boardwalk Entertainment Center is an 80-lane, split house bowling center that has hosted numerous championships as well as serving as the home center for the University of Central Florida college bowling program.

Norwegian Mads Sandbaekken triumphs in Boys Masters finals

Mads Sandbaekken (white shirt) of Norway won the coveted Boys Masters title when he defeated Canadian Dan MacLelland (left), 3-1, in the title match. MacLelland opened the championship match with a 202-191 victory before Sandbaekken roared back. He won the second game in the second roll-off after a 202-202 tie, won the third game 219-192 and capped off the day with a 247-189 victory in game four to claim the title.

Sharon Koh mows down the field to win the Girls Masters title

Sharon Koh (second from left) of Malaysia mowed down the field in the Girls Masters finals en route to win the prestigious title at the 9th World Youth Championships. In the championship match against Therese Forsell (left) from Sweden, Koh won the deciding fifth game in style when she fired the highest game of the day to seal the victory with 265-196.

Cheah/Aziela wait till the last moment to win Girl's Doubles

Esther Cheah teamed with
Zandra Aziela to win the gold medal in the Girls Doubles at the 9th World Youth Championships in Berlin, Germany. The Malaysians finished with a 503-game to capture the title with 2463 pinfall total and an average of 205,25 Valerie Teo and Cherie Tan of Singapore were mere five pins behind to earn the silver medal with 2458. Squad 1 leaders Tina Hulsch and Janine Gabel, Germany, received bronze with 2426.

If you wonder why Bowlingdigital has still not started with "Live Coverage" from the 9th World Youth Championships 2006 at Bowlingcenter Schillerpark in Berlin, Germany, here is the answer. Is it because it's 'just youth bowling'? No. Is it because of the host center and the proprietors? No. But working for the German Bowling Federation (DBU) is absolutely no fun.

Singapore starts World Youth Championships with gold and silver in Girl's Singles
9th World Youth Championships 2006 - Girls Singles
Needing a 171-score in the final game,
Valerie Teo of Singapore rolled a 173-game to overtake her team mate
Cherie Tan and win the gold medal in the Girl's Singles. Valerie totaled 1193 pins over six games, with Cherie in second place at 1190.
Stefanie Nation, United States, earned the bronze medal with 1181.

9th World Youth Championships 2006 will be officially declared open on Saturday evening. Originally, we had planned to start our coverage with a picture from the Opening Ceremony scheduled from 8 to 8.30 pm. However, as the German Bowling Federation (DBU) has decided to levy an entry fee from the media, we have decided not to attend the ceremony but to start our coverage on Sunday morning when the real action begins with the Girl's Singles on short oil.

Orlando selected to host 2008 World Youth Championships
Elite bowlers from approximately 50 countries to compete at Boardwalk Entertainment Center

Boardwalk Entertainment Center, an 80-lane facility in Orlando, Fla., has been selected to host the
2008 WTBA World Youth Championships, marking the first time this international tournament for elite youth bowlers will be held in the United States. "We look forward to working with Boardwalk Entertainment Center, the city of Orlando and the WTBA to make this a memorable event for everyone involved," said USBC Director of Team USA Kevin Dornberger.

Junior Team USA ready to face challengers at 2006 World Youth Championships

When Junior Team USA's
P.J. Haggerty and
Stefanie Nation return to the World Youth Championships in a few weeks, they personally will notice the growth of bowling worldwide -- more countries, more competitors and more challengers. They lead a strong United States contingent into the event scheduled for July 22-29 in Berlin, Germany.

Technical Committee announces Oil Patterns for World Youth Championships 2006

The
WTBA Technical Committee has released the oil patterns for the 9th World Youth Championships 2006 in Berlin, Germany. The event will be held from July 21 through 30, 2006 at bowling center Schillerpark, the biggest bowling center in Germany with 46 lanes on one floor.
Ted Thompson, technical consultant to the WTBA Technical Committee, explained to us why it has taken longer than normal for the oil patterns to be announced.
