Slovakia 

Slovakian bowler rolls three 300 games within eight days

MartinSlavkovsky3x300_small.jpg Martin Slavkovský from Bowling Club 300 Nove Zamky, one of Slovakia's best players, has scored three 300 games within eight days. Slavkovský, who represented his country in the 2007 European Championships in Vienna, Austria and the QubicaAMF Bowling Cup in St. Petersburg in the same year, rolled his first career 300 game on June 29th, 2008, the second one day later,  both in the 'City Cup 2008' in Poprad, and the third just another six days later in the Slovakia Open on July 6th.

It's Gross again; wins second international title within 8 days in Czech Open

Bowland in Olomouc, Czech Republic (July 7-13, 2008)

2008CzechOpenLogo_small.jpg 2008CzechOpenThomasGross_small.jpg Thomas Gross (r.) from Austria won his second international title and his second 2.500 Euro top prize within eight day when he claimed the title in the 6th Czech Open 2008 at Bowland in Olomouc, Czech Republic, on Sunday July 13. Gross defeated Radek Pospisil from Slovakia in the title match over two games total pinfall, 430 to 372. Pospisil had to settle for second place with Jan Spacil, Czech Republic, in third.

Wimmer wins 2nd Austria Senior Open 2008

Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria (July10-13, 2008)

2008ASOHermannWimmer2_small.jpg Hermann Wimmer (l.) from Germany emerged as the winner of the 2nd Austria Senior Open 2008 at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. Wimmer, who was third after qualifying overtook the lead in the Round of 32 and never looked back. He finished with 2754 12-game total including handicap and was able to weather a strong challenge by Austrian Walter Rieger and Jürgen Preuss, Germany, who came up strong in the final two games in the Round of 8. Wimmer pocketed 2.000 Euro for first place, Rieger received 1.000€ for second and Preuss garnered 700 Euro for third place.

Gross cruises to victory in the 7th Slovakia Open

Brunswick Bowling Aupark in Bratislava, Slovakia (July 3-6, 2008)

2008SLKOpenThomasGross_small.jpg Thomas Gross (pictured) from Austria won the title in the 7th Slovakia Open at Brunswick Bowling Aupark in Bratislava, Slovakia and the 2.500 Euro top prize. The European champion in Doubles averaged 238-plus in round robin to hold a 150-pin lead before the final position round. Though he fell to #2 Miroslav Cifra, Czech Republic, 248-201, and #3 Peter Smits, Netherlands, posted a huge 276 game, Gross (center) cruised to victory with 2028 pinfall total.

Mizrachi and Aviram repeat as Israeli National Champions

2008ISRNCOrAviramSaritMizrachi_small.jpg Sarit Mizrachi and Or Aviram won the titles in the 2008 Israeli Individual National Championship Friday at "Superbowling Sport", a 20-laner in Petach Tikva, Israel. 44 players participated in the championship. After 20 games on short and long oil the top 8 men and top women determined the champions in best-of-three single-elimination finals. The champions will represent Israel in the European Champions Cup in Duisburg, Germany, later this year. Aviram won the ECC title in 2006.

Almost 800 bowlers participate in 17th European Senior Bowling Championships

2008ESBCLogo_small.jpg A total of 792 seniors (507 men and 285 women) from 18 countries - Austria, Belgium, Catalonia (an Autonomous Community of the Kingdom of Spain, ETBF member federation), Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland - participated in the 17th European Senior Bowling Championships in three bowling centers in or near Nantes, France. The event was organized by Francoise Augustin, ESBC Presidium member. Paul Douw, Netherlands, was elected ESBC president for three years.

Opposite to the 4.400 and 3.000 Euro top prizes announced by the European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF), Moor and Wiekeraad earned 3.080 Euro and 2.100 Euro, respectively, for winning the titles.

2008GPZurichTopChristianBirlingerHansNietsch_small.jpg The 31st Grand Prix Zurich at Bowling Center BeSeCo in Rümikon-Winterthur, Switzerland was dominated by bowlers from Germany as all four players in the stepladder final came from the Swiss neighbor. In the title match, Hans Nietsch (r.), the No. 1 seed defeated former national team member Frank Börner, 217-207, to secure the title.  The youth tournament saw almost the same outcome. The top three players came from Germany with Christian Birlinger (l.) capturing the title.

More than 3,000 enthusiastic young people from 17 countries participated in the event in 2007. The World Sports Festival 2008 offers eight sports - Baseball , Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball and Wrestling - with a unique Olympic-like atmosphere and big fun potential, yet with enough time for personal and intercultural encounters on and off the fields (lanes, pools, courts, etc.).

2008NORNCRenateJakobsenSveinRogerOlsen_small.jpg Renate Jakobsen (l.) of bowling club Stavanger and Svein Roger Olsen (r.), Solli BK, took different routes to win the women's and men's individual titles in the 2008 Norwegian National Championships at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo. Record 71 ladies and 221 men started the championships on Thursday and Friday with the doubles event. Ingunn Øien teamed with Cathrine Bjercke to win the women's title while Olsen and Thomas Fagerstrøm captured the men's title.

WTM champion Caminsky forced to postpone the upcoming Durban Cup

Therefore, it was a difficult decision for bowling center proprietor and South Africa No. 1 bowler, Guy Caminsky (pictured), to announce that the Durban Cup 2008, due for the May 17-18, is postponed. "We have had an unfortunate incident at Superbowling Gateway," said Caminsky the 2008 World Tenpin Masters champion. "A customer threw a ball into our ceiling and knocked off the sprinkler head for the fire sprinkler system."

Four-time Irish Champion Paul Magee dies

2003WTTCPaulMagee_small.jpg We were informed that long-time Irish national team member Paul Magee has died at the age of only 51 after a long battle with motor neuron disease. Paul was a member of the Irish national team from 1978 until 2001 and a four-time Irish national champion. He played in many World Cups, in World and European Championships before he became Irish team manager until 2003. "Paul was a man who lit up the world of bowling with his personality. His victory banquet sing-alongs were legendary," said Darryl Eagen, a friend and team mate on Team Ireland.

Four in a row for Lebon in Belgian Individual Championship

Goossens wins women's title

2008BELNCLebonGoosens_small.jpg Jean-Marc Lebon and Katrien Goossens won the men's and women's title in the 2008 Belgian Individual Championship Sunday May 4th at Bowling Bowlmaster in Brussels. It was the fourth consecutive national title for Lebon and the sixth overall. This season, the Belgian Sport Bowling Federation created a new category called "Top Sport" which was contested on sport conditions. The champions will represent Belgium at the 31st European Champions Cup, October 20-26, 2008 at Treff Bowling in Duisburg, Germany.

Caminsky beats Barnes to win 11th World Tenpin Masters

Trailing the American by nine pins after a 258-249 defeat in game #1, Caminsky put on a show in game #2 when he defeated the 10-time PBA champion, 277-259, to cruise to victory.
