2008 Brunswick Team England #1
From Zero to Hero; Kendall comes from behind to win Blackburn Singles
The first Brunswick Team England tournament of 2008 was held at Bowlplex Blackburn, Jan. 19-20, and was a lesson in never giving up on a seemingly lost cause.
Rob Kendall, was 35th after qualifying and advanced just because of two no-shows, averaged 261 in round 2 and 227 in round robin to to blow away the field and claim victory by 113 pins. On the women's side,
Fiona Banks beat out Jo Allsebrook by six pins to earn the title, 3404 to 3398.

Thornton wins 2007 English rankings; Allsebrook and Glover tie for the ladies No. 1 spot
The Storm English Open at Lakeside Superbowl in Nuneaton was not only the final European ranking event but also the final Brunswick Team England ranking event of the season reports Eric Hayton.
Steve Thornton (pictured left) won the men's rankings with Jon Zadel in second and Rob Kendall in third. At the top of the ladies though, and for the first time, there was a tie for the number 1 spot between

Jo Allsebrook (right).

Quarry and Smith take different routes to win in Tamworth
Strykers Bowl in Tamworth, England (Nov. 17-18, 2007)
Mike Quarry and
Jemma Smith took different routes to win the 14th and penultimate ranking event of the 2007 Brunswick Team England season, the Tamworth Open Singles at Strykers Bowl in Tamworth. World Championship silver medalist Quarry led the men's division from start to finish, while in the ladies Jemma Smith shot 278 final game for a 2 pin victory.

Williams/Froggatt successfully defend their title at AMF Grand Prix Doubles
AMF Macclesfield (Oct. 28-29, 2007)
Defending champions
Stuart Williams (r.) and
Nick Froggatt (l.) did the double at AMF Macclesfield last weekend. Attracting a very solid entry of 43 doubles pairings it was a come from behind victory as top qualifiers were Damian Gray and ex-junior international Ray Teece with Rob Kendall and Dom Barrettt in second after the first round. Team England ranking points were awarded for the first 8 games – Matt Miller (1904) headed Ray Teece for max points, while Finny Banks (1756) headed partner Jo Allsebrook by 20 pins in the ladies.

Thornton wins PTBC Eliminator; Hood, John atop the men's and women's rankings
Steve Thornton (l.) has won the 12th Brunswick Team England ranking event, the PTBC Eliminator at Airport Bowl in London Heathrow. Thornton averaged 227 in the 8-player round robin match play and won six of his seven matches to beat out
Daniel Stride (r.) for the title, 1769 to 1754.
Richard Hood and
Lisa John won the men's and women's rankings based on the qualifying scores with 230.50 and 202.75 average for eight games.

Kendall and again Allsebrook win Brunswick Team England ranking event in Blackburn
Bowlplex Blackburn (September 22-23, 2007)
After a two-month break, Brunswick Team England events continued in Blackburn in September – unfortunately this also clashed with the adult Triple Crown in Jersey, the European Champions Cup in Luxembourg and the EBT in Ankara. Nevertheless 40 bowlers (seven ladies) took to the lanes. Jo Allsebrook added her second title in a row and this time beat the men as well. Though Rob Kendall was second over the 17 games, he did shoot more pins scratch, the seven pin ladies bonus the difference, though this should take nothing away from Jo, who is in a rich vein of form.

First shall be last
Charrington Bowl in Tolworth, England (July 28-29, 2007)
Way back in January 1992 the first Team Britain (as was) ranking event was held at Strykers Bushbury. Two Hundred and Sixty-Seven ranking events later the winner then is the winner now -
Cliff Dew. His win has been a talking point – a massive 626 points ahead of Steve Thornton (below on the left) – an average about 20 pins better than any left or right handed player was able to make on the very flat pattern laid down this year.

Going to Russia to win
Lakeside Superbowl Nuneaton in Nuneaton, England (July 14-15, 2007)
Lakeside Nuneaton hosted this year's QubicaAMF World Cup qualifying tournament for English players in mid-July and produced one very surprised winner and one that could only be described as a favorite. 3-time European ranking champion
Paul Moor claimed his fifth World Cup qualifying win, while
Jo Allsebrook's first Team England ranking win doesn't come much better than earning a trip to Russia

Giles, Glover win BTE rankings in European Fives
Number Ten Ipswich (June 29 - July 1)
Andy Giles (l.), who has been on a reduced bowling schedule for the last three years since last making the Brunswick Team England squad, won his first ranking event with a 2490 (226 average) total over the 11 games of the singles and team event. In the ladies event,
Zara Glover (r.) won her fourth title of the season shooting 2350 (213 average).

Williams blasts through knockout rounds to cruise to PTBC title in Bromborough
Kendall and Glover win the rankings
After a slow start in qualifying, a lowly 19th place,
Stuart Williams (right) blasted through five knockout rounds averaging 233 over 13 games to take the PTBC title at the Bowl in Bromborough. In the championship match in best-of-three games format,
Rob Kendall (left) beat Williams in the final first game 227-196, but Williams replied with 234 and 247 to take the title.

Ainge and Barrett win Scott Banks Memorial singles titles
The annual Scott Banks Memorial at AMF Leeds produced a new winner for Team England in the ladies event, as
Nicki Ainge not only won the maximum ranking points for her score over 10 games (2124), but also held off all challengers in the round robin.
Mike Quarry bagged max points in the men's division but finished third after the round robin.
Dom Barrett (right) and Steve Thornton battled for the crown with Barrett succeeding by 21 pins.

Darren Cundy wins Ilkeston Knockout Open
Zadel, Smith win the rankings
There were two parts to this event – an 8 game qualifier for Team England points and a 24 person knockout over 3 games total pinfall.
Jon Zadel (left) bagged his second ranking title in a row with 1763, while the ladies' honors went to
Jemma Smith (right) on 1698.
Darren Cundy (611) beat Mark Smith (589) to win the knockout final.

Zadel beats Scott by one pin to win Jim Brewer Memorial
John edges Smith for the women's title
Summer came to the south coast resort of Poole for the 21st Annual Jim Brewer Tournament and so did 42 men and 16 ladies.
Lisa John (pictured left) returned to welcome form, edging Jemma Smith by 23 pins for the women's title. An unbelievable finish to the men’s event saw
Jon Zadel (right) beat Adam Scott by one pin.

Thornton and Banks win BTE rankings at the BTBA National Championships
Hollywood Bowl in Bradford, Yorkshire, England (March 11-25, 2007)
The BTBA Nationals was held at Hollywood Bowl Bradford, Yorkshire. Ranking points were decided by the all-events scores bowled by players in the A division only over nine games. Men’s Division A was won by Steve Thornton (left, 2067) comprising of sets of 646, 687 and 734. Women’s Division A winner Finny Banks’ (right) total of 2063 would have placed in second in the men’s top division.

Steve Thornton to win the PTBC Matchplay Doubles in Madison Heights, England. In the title match, Barrett rolled a 259 game and Thornton added 246 to fly past the duo Chris Snashall (192) and Damian Gray (215), 505-407.
