Belmonte has sights set on more events in the United States
By Lucas Wiseman

For years,
Jason Belmonte struggled with the burden of being a world-class bowler based in the distant country of Australia. When he got on the plane to travel to the 2008 Columbia 300 Vienna Open on Thursday, it took him just an hour and a half. Belmonte is adjusting to some big changes in his life. He recently moved to Nice, France, with his new wife, Kimberly. The result is the ability to quickly and easily bowl more tournaments in Europe, and he will now be able to compete more in the United States. Belmonte is one of nearly 300 bowlers from 28 countries competing this week at the 2008 Columbia 300 Vienna Open.

Desperately Seeking … Clara Guerrero
Some call the 25-year-old Colombian the "hottest woman in bowling."

In an item that appeared in Monday's new, revamped Chicago Tribune on page 3 of the front section author Rob Manker listed 5 hot topics from Sunday, as measured by Google Trends, which tracks fast-rising Internet search terms. Sandwiched between actress Heather Locklear, ESPN's Kenny Mayne, the National Football League and a Tom Hanks movie was … Colombian standout and 2005 World Ranking Masters champion
Clara Juliana Guerrero (left). It is more than unusual that a bowler makes it among the hottest topics on Google and it definitely makes the Colombian one of the "hottest woman in bowling".

Bowling museum receives major contribution
The International Bowling Museum unexpectedly received a significant five-figure contribution in September from the Helen E. Weston Trust. The Museum had no prior knowledge that it had been mentioned in Ms. Weston's will. "This is not the first surprise gift like this, but it is the largest," said Executive Director Gerald W. Baltz. "It is very gratifying to all of us at the Museum when an avid bowler recognizes our efforts to collect and preserve bowling's rich history and chooses to support those efforts as part of her legacy." Helen Weston was a high level bowler at both the national and international level at the peak of her bowling career in the 1960s.

Milwaukee bowling alley, the oldest in the nation, celebrates 100th anniversary with reunion By Dinesh Ramde
Republished courtesy of Chicago Tribune, United States (Sep 14, 2008)

The walls that line the pair of lanes in this tiny bowling alley seem close enough to make a bowler feel claustrophobic. But at a 100th anniversary party Saturday, the walls of
Holler House felt like the wide-open arms of family. The wood in the lanes is original, and the narrow quarters cause thunderous echoes as bowling balls rumble down the lanes. Pin boys reload the manual pin mechanism by hand, and numerous photos and momentos on the walls document the history and good times at the nation's oldest bowling alley. In a city that became synonymous with beer and bowling, Holler House tavern and bowling alley has been an enduring landmark.
