Wright, Vick take titles at 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships

Jennifer Wright and Rochester Institute of Technology's
Dan Vick emerged with national titles Tuesday at the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships in Milwaukee, Wis. Vick, a Pittsford, N.Y., native swept North Carolina State senior Vincent DiNova, 3-0, in a best-of-five, single-elimination match to win the men's national championship at Olympic Lanes. In the women's division, Pikeville junior Wright of Columbia, S.C. defeated Robert Morris College senior Kristen Nielsen, 3-1, for the women's national title.

Current, Rutherford earn top seeds at 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships

Defending champion
Elysia Current of Wichita State and
Sean Rutherford of Martin Methodist earned the top seeds heading into match play at the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships on Monday. Current, a four-time collegiate All-American and former Player of the Year, finished the 12 games of qualifying with 2,784, an average of 232.0, to lead the women's field by 138 pins at Olympic Lanes. Rutherford led the men by just over 200 pins, shooting 2,686, an average of 223.83.

While she took away a lot under the tutelage of legendary coaches Mark Lewis and Gordon Vadakin, what she gleaned most from that experience was how to manage her mental game. Current's collegiate career will come to an end next week as she looks to defend her national title at the
2008 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships, being held at Olympic Lanes in Milwaukee on May 19-20.

Telecasts set for 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships
CBS College Sports Network will air both national title matches in early June

For the fifth consecutive year, CBS College Sports Network will showcase the pinnacle event of the college bowling season - the
2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm - by airing the women's and men's national championship matches in early June. The women's national championship will air Wednesday, June 4, at 8 p.m. EDT. Two days later, the men's national championship will air on Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m. EDT.

Pikeville bears down for women's national title at USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

Pikeville senior Kayla Bandy can now add another accomplishment to her growing collection. The one she wanted all along - a national championship. Bandy, the two-time reigning National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Most Valuable Player, and her Bears teammates defeated hometown Wichita State, 2-0, in the best-of-3, single-elimination women's title match Saturday at the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm, at Northrock Lanes. The championship matches will air nationally on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV) at a later date.

Wichita State rides momentum to men's national title at 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships
Wichita State senior Jesse Buss said momentum was a key ingredient to success at the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm. So when he buried his first shot for a strike to start off the men's championship match against UNLV, he knew his teammates would respond in kind. The Shockers followed Buss' lead in rolling to a 2-0 victory in the best-of-3, single-elimination match over UNLV on Saturday at Northrock Lanes for a record eighth national title and first since 2003.

Saginaw Valley State closes in on 'three-peat' at 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships
Saginaw Valley State moved closer to becoming the second team in history to win three straight national titles Friday at the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm, at Northrock Lanes. Saginaw Valley State is joined by the UNLV men, defending women's champion Wichita State and the Pikeville women as the remaining undefeated teams. All four teams need to win just one match in the semifinals to advance to the finals, scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m. CDT Saturday.

Wichita State women, William Paterson men earn top seeds at USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

William Paterson University men claimed the top seeds after qualifying Thursday at the 2008 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm. The ITC, featuring the top 16 men's and top 16 women's college bowling teams in the country vying for national titles, is being held at Northrock Lanes and runs through Saturday.

Dan MacLelland were named Most Valuable Players for the 2007-08 collegiate bowling season by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA). Bandy and MacLelland were honored along with the rest of the All-Americans at the "Night of Champions" banquet held Wednesday in conjunction with the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm, which open Thursday at Northrock Lanes.

Maryland-Eastern Shore capped off a memorable day of comebacks by defeating Arkansas State, 4-2, in the best-of-7 Baker championship match Saturday at the 2008 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship at Thunder Alley. "After last year, I felt we were contending for a championship," said Maryland-Eastern Shore head coach Sharon Brummell, who led the Hawks to a national runner-up finish a year ago. "These young ladies came out today and fought."

2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm, following the completion of Sectional Qualifier competition March 15-16, with the Saginaw Valley State University men's team and Wichita State University women's team ready to defend their titles.
Saginaw Valley State advanced to the national finals for the fifth straight year. In the women's division,
Wichita State, advanced for the 27th straight year dating back to 1982 and record 33rd appearance.
