Alta's Blind bowler rolls perfect game; Dale Davis, 78, scores first 300 at Century Lanes By Jake Kurtz
Republished courtesy of The Storm Lake Times, Iowa, USA (May 7, 2008)

A perfect game. The most difficult achievement a bowler can accomplish. It's even more impressive when a blind World War II veteran does it. That was the scene at Saturday evening's All-League Playoffs at Century Lanes in Alta.
Dale Davis, just three months from his 79th birthday, his sight stolen years ago by macular degeneration, rolled 12 consecutive strikes in front of an enthusiastic and supportive crowd. The effort was the first-ever 300 game at Century.

The Tournament of the Americas, an Impossible Dream, moving to Orlando By Dick Evans

Three years before Joe Robbie brought the Miami Dolphins into the Orange Bowl, Lee Evans brought the Bowling
Tournament of the Americas into Cloverleaf Lanes. Evans, news-bureau director for the City of Miami, dreamed of uniting the Americas through an amateur bowling tournament and he pulled it off without much support. The only bowling official who didn't laugh at his idea was Earl J. Reed, president of the American Bowling Congress in Milwaukee. He encouraged Evans to chase what Reed called 'his impossible dream.' I discouraged my brother, I told him it never would work.

About four-dozen bowlers of all levels and from all over New Mexico showed up at Tenpins & More last weekend to get an insider's look at how intricate the sport really is — and maybe add a few pins to their averages along the way. Former U.S. Olympics bowling team coach
Fred Borden, good enough in his own right to have rolled a perfect game at an ABC championship event, is 66 years old and was as giddy as a school girl as he explained what was in store for the men and women gathering at the bowling center early Saturday.

Milwaukee loses crown as bowling capital of world By Jeff Richgels
Republished courtesy of The Capital Times - Madison, Wis., USA (March 11, 2008)

It's official: Milwaukee no longer will be the bowling capital of the world. After notifying its more than 200 employees this morning, the United States Bowling Congress announced that its Board of Directors has given approval to relocate the organization's headquarters to Arlington, Texas, where it will reside with the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America. The move is contingent upon approval of funding from the Texas Enterprise Fund, USBC said. Milwaukee became America's Tenpin Capital a century ago when Milwaukee proprietor Abe Langtry lobbied to bring the American Bowling Congress tournament to Milwaukee in 1905.
