The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) do not have the services of two Americans Richard Shockley and Joseph Slowinski any longer. The lanky Shockley was hired as a consultant on a three-month contract in June to help the men's team for the World Championships. His contract was not renewed after the men's team returned without any medals from the world meet in Bangkok in August. Limited funding floors Esther By Ajitpal Singh
Republished courtesy of New Straits Times - Persekutuan, Malaysia (Oct. 1, 2008)

Limited funding has forced two-time world champion
Esther Cheah to withdraw from the Herrin Bowl Open in the United States which starts on Friday. This is because the National Sports Council (NSC) decided a week ago to fund her for only one regional tournament instead of three in the US this month. This means, Esther, who is studying psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will only make her professional debut in the Barney Open (Oct 10-12), a Midwest regional event. Unfortunately, this arrangement does not augur well for Esther's preparations for the AMF World Cup in Mexico on Nov 7-15.

Republished courtesy of New Straits Times - Persekutuan, Malaysia (Sep. 14, 2008)

The days of easy entry into international tournaments are over as from now on, the national bowlers will need to prove themselves in training to be considered for overseas events. National coach
Holloway Cheah (pictured) said bowlers who failed to impress in training will be home-bound until they improve. And to prove his point, Holloway has decided not to send the bowlers for the Ankara Open on Sept 16-21. He made this decision at the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) development committee meeting on Friday.

While the chop is not imminent for the national bowlers who failed to win even one medal in the Men's World Championships in Bangkok, they have been warned that this is not a permanent stand. The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC), while disappointed with the showing, won't indulge in rash actions and is prepared to give the keglers another chance. However, with a host of youngsters waiting to be promoted, MTBC high performance manager
Cheah Ban Cheng (pictured) said the seniors must perform in training and tournaments to safeguard their positions.
