HKTBC releases revised schedule for 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships

19 countries to participate in the event

IMG HKTBCLogo.jpg ABFLogo_small.jpg The Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress (HKTBC) has released Bulltin No. 1 and a revised schedule for the 20th edition of the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships to be held from July 4th through 12th in Hong Kong, China. Vivien Fung, HKTBC Chairman, Asian Bowling Federation Honorary Life President and Head of the Organizing Committee has announced that 19 ABF member countries will participate in the prestigious championship. Bowlingdigital will report live from Hong Kong commencing with the 20th ABF General Assembly all the way through to the Masters finals on July the 10th.

Nepomuceno uses home advantage to take the qualifying lead in the 6th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge

2008ISCPaengNepomuceno_small.jpg Paeng Nepomuceno (left), Philippines, powered his way into the lead on day three qualifying in the 6th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge at Paeng's Midtown Bowl in Manila, Philippines. The 4-time World Cup champion, who has won 118 international titles in his illustrious career, has registered high 3-game series of 760 and 756 to lead the field with 1516 pinfall total and an average of 252.67. Malaysian Zulmazran Zulkifli is at 1421, with Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong in third at 1404.

Healey wins women's title from top seed

2008SOTeresaHealey_small.jpg 2008SOKhaledAlDubyan_small.jpg Khaled Al Dubyan (l.), Kuwait, defeated tournament leader Mansoor El Awamy, Qatar, in the men's title match in the 10th Sinai International Open Tenpin Bowling Tournament at International Bowling Center in Cairo, Egypt, 222-186, to claim the title and the $7,000 top prize.  On the women's side, top-seeded Teresa Healey (r.), Mexico flew past denied Sandra Torrents' bid for back-to-back titles by defeating the Spaniard, 204-160. Healey received $3,000 for the victory.

Two firsts for Paeng Nepomuceno

USBCSIlverLevelseminarMay2008_small.jpg 4-time World Cup Champion and USBC International Ambassador for Bowling Paeng Nepomuceno (on the right) just concluded the first USBC Silver Coaching Accreditation Seminar in Manila, Philippines, the first time a silver coaching seminar has been conducted outside the United States. Another first for Paeng was that he conducted three seminars - Level One, Bronze Level and Silver Level - one after the other. Nepomuceno's training is part of the USBC effort to create an international coach training program and bolster the strength of  federations within the FIQ.

Defying doctors' orders pays off for Wendy by Ajitpal Singh

20080507WRMChampionWendyChai_small.jpg Wendy Chai, for the last five years, has been defying doctors' advice to quit bowling but her defiance not to do so paid off when she won the World Ranking Masters in Jakarta on Monday to be the new women's World No 1. Not many know that the 31-year-old Wendy (pictured here with her mother Susan) has been suffering from a serious cartilage injury to her left knee, sustained at the 2003 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur. Since then she has been defying doctors' orders to go under the knife to repair her knee and to quit bowling.

'Paeng' certifies new USBC coaches in Philippines

20080505PaengUSBCBronzeSeminarPHI_small.jpg Seven new coaches have been certified at the USBC Bronze level following a recent conference in the Philippines led by USBC Coach/Instructor and world champion bowler Rafael "Paeng" Nepomuceno. It was the first USBC Level I and Bronze seminar taught this year by Nepomuceno, a USBC Level I and Bronze Instructor who teaches Level I and Bronze classes in the Philippines and Asia. The coaches he trains and certifies through the USBC program will in turn develop bowlers in that region.

Lalisang defends his title at ABF Tour Kuwait leg

2008ABFT03RyanLalisang_small.jpg Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia defeated Hussain Al-Suwaidi, 217-204, in the title match of the Asian Bowling Federation Tour Kuwait leg, to successfully defend his title at Cozmo Bowling Center in Kuwait City. In the semi-final, Lalisang eliminated Kuwait Open champion Jason Belmonte, Australia, in a re-match of last year's final, 222-208. In the other semi-final, Al-Suwaidi sidelined Kuwaiti Khaled Al-Dubyyan, 207-204. The fourth stop of the ABF Tour will be held in Hong Kong on June 8.

Belmonte clinches third Kuwait Open title

Belmonte rolled his second 300 game of the tournament in match play to earn the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals. In the title match, Belmo defeated second seed Martin Larsen (right), Sweden, in a decisive, although low-scoring 182-155 match, scooping the coveted title for a third time in his career.

Asbaty to host bowling clinic, exhibition in Singapore

2008USBCSilverCoachDiandraAsbaty_small.jpg Diandra Asbaty, one of the world's best female bowlers, will share her knowledge of the sport with bowlers in Southeast Asia when she hosts a bowling clinic and exhibition in June in Singapore. Asbaty, a 10-time United States Bowling Congress Team USA member and a USBC Silver coach, will lead the event titled "Kaizen by diandra: The World Academy" scheduled for June 1-2 at Orchid Bowl @ SAFRA Tampines. Asbaty's clinic, sponsored by Brunswick, will coincide with the 41st Singapore International Open May 22-31.

Different tournament, same outcome: Al-Hassan beats Oqab again to win ABF Tour Saudi Arabia leg

2008KSAShakerAlHassan3_small.jpg 2008KSANaifOqab_small.jpg After finishing 1, 2 in the 2nd Kingdom International Open winner Shaker Al-Hassan (left) and runner-up Naif Oqab met for a re-match in the finals of the 2008 Asian Bowling Federation Tour Saudi Arabia leg once again at Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Al-Hassan, who won the Open and $30,000, 224-208, remained undefeated as he flew past his compatriot, 245-215, to win the title and 75 ranking points, but no prize money.

2008KSATop4_small.jpg In a title match between the two top-seeded players, Shaker Al-Hassan (pictured with the trophy) defeated compatriot Naif Oqab, 224-208 en route to win the 2nd Kingdom International Open at Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the 30,000 Dollar first-place check. Oqab received $18,000 for second place, Paeng Nepomuceno, Philippines pocketed $12,000 for third place and Mahmoud Mazloum, Egypt, garnered $10,000 for fourth place.

Helmy wins his third ranking title this year in Egypt

2008EGTPoliceTournamentTop3_small.jpg Tarek "Taco" Helmy won his third title in an Egyptian ranking event this year when he defeated Mostafa Seoud, 225-192, in the title match of the Police Tournament. Helmy, who won the tournament in Hurghada and the Team Egypt Trials earlier this year, was the No. 3 seed in the four-player stepladder final. He won the opening match against Karim Elgewaily, 195-179, and then ousted first round leader Karim Sheriff, 212-202, in the semi-final.

Nepomuceno conducts first Silver Coach Seminar outside the U.S.

Level 1, Bronze and Silver Level seminars to be held at Paeng's Midtown Bowl May 2-7

2008ISCPaengNepomuceno_small.jpg Philippine legend Paeng Nepomuceno will conduct United States Bowling Congress Level 1, Bronze Level and Silver Level Coaching Accreditation Seminars in conjunction with the 6th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge at Paeng's Midtown Bowl in Manila. The tournament which promises to have many participants from Asia and overseas, runs from May 7-13, 2008. "I am looking forward to conducting the seminars, especially since this will be the first time that a USBC Silver Level Coaching Accreditation Seminar will be given outside of the United States," said Nepomuceno.

Zhang Yun Hong wins first career ABF Tour title in women's division

2008ABFT01Champions_small.jpg Defending champion Somjed Kusonpithak, Thailand, won back-to-back Asian Bowling Federation Tour titles in Thailand when he defeated fellow-countryman Pasut Punsanthaveekul in the men's title match of the 2008 season opener, 201-192. Zhang Yun Hong, China, captured her first career victory at S.F. Strike Bowl in Ngamwongwan, Thailand, with a 199-168 win over 2007 Asian and ABF Tour Ranking champion Kim Eun Jung, Korea.

Hsing-Chao comes from behind to win men's Thailand Open Masters title

Shuk Han win's women's title by the by the closest possible margin

2008THAOpenLogo_small.jpgCheng Hsing-Chao, Chinese Taipei and Chan Shuk Han, Hong Kong, took different routes to the men's and women's Open Masters titles in the 34th Thailand International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at S.F. Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand. Hsing-Chao, the No. 6 seed, won four straight matches including 215-196 and 207-184 victories over No. 1 seeded Somjed Kusonpithak, Thailand, to triumph in the men's division. Shuk Han, the women's No. 1 seed, escaped with the victory after a 207-206 in the decisive match against No. 2 seed, Chien Hsiu Lan, Chinese Taipei.
