Vienna Open - Tournament Format
Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria (October 17-22, 2006)
Doubles
6 games doubles which is counting as qualification for the singles event. The lane movements will be 2-4 lanes after each game (depending on the size of the squad), where the player on the left lane moves to the left and the player on the right lane moves to the right. There will be no final. 14 Squads - unlimited re-entries with different partners possible. A bowler can only qualify once with the same partner for the prize fund.
Based on their highest individual six-game score, including handicap, the top 56 players will qualify for the Singles event. Additionally, 6 players will qualify through the Extra Bonus and another 6 players through the Desperado Squad.

Extra Bonus:
The 6 players with the highest score in the squads 1 to 6 are directly qualified for the Singles event. In case a squad winner has already qualified, the second-best player of this squad will qualify. The squads will only be played, if at least 10 Doubles will participate. Otherwise the squad will be cancelled and the Doubles will be added to the next squad. In case a squad has to be cancelled, an additional player out of the Doubles event will qualify for the quarterfinals (for example: Squad 2 was cancelled. 57 players with the highest individual six-game score advance from the Doubles.)
Desperado Squad:
Every player who played at least one Doubles squad can register. One game only. The top 6 players based on the highest game including handicap qualify for the Singles event.
Singles
Qualifiers 1 - 8 (highest pinfall from the Doubles event) will receive a bye into Step 2.
Final Step 1:
The 60 players qualified for stee final step 1 will bowl 6 games starting from scratch. The winners advance to Final Step 2.
Seeding for the Final Step 2-5:
Players positioned 1-8 in the qualification standing will be seeded 1-8. Players qualified from the step 1 will be seeded 9-32 according to their positions in the standing of the final step 1.
Matching in the Final Step 2-5:
All matches will be combined as the highest seeded player vs. the lowest seeded player, the second highest seeded player vs. the second lowest player etc...
Final Step 2:
The 32 qualified players compete in best-of-three-games match play. The winners advance to
Final Step 3:
The 16 winners from Step 2 compete in best-of-three-games match play. The winners advance to
Final Step 4:
The 8 winners from Step 3 compete in best-of-three-games match play. The winners advance to
Final Step 5:
There will be 1 match over one game. The winners advance to
Final Step 6:
There will also be 1 match over one game to determine the Vienna Open Champion!
