Koreans sweep Masters titles to end the bowling competition in the 15th Asian Games

Ong flew past the second Korean, Choi Bok Eum, in the opening match, 259-195, for the right to bowl Nam Yi for the title.

Cheah earned Silver and Jin A's teammate Kim Yeau Jin received bronze.

Al Shaikh shoots highest series in Team event to secure gold medal in Men's All Events

Qatar Bowling Center in Doha, Qatar (Dec. 3-10, 2006)

2006AsianGamesLogo_small.jpg Doubles champions Bader Al Shaikh posted the 1414 high score in the men's Team event to secure the gold medal in men's All Events with a new Asian Games record of 5482, an average of 228.42 over 24 games. Nayef Oqab captured the silver medal with 5407. Yannaphon Larp-apharat from Thailand beat out Bader's brother Hassan for the bronze medal, 5332 to 5320.

Japanese men put on a show to defend the Asian Games team title

2006AGMenTeamTop3_small.jpg As we promised yesterday, the second block on short oil in the men's Team event was an extra exciting round. Starting the day in 6th place, trailing long-oil leader Korea by 261 pins, 2002 Asian Games champion Japan put on a show en route to successfully defending the title. Toshihiko Takahashi, Masaaki Takemoto, Tomoyuki Sasaki, Tomokatsu Yamashita and Masaru Ito averaged 233.47 on short oil and felled 3502 pins, 412 pins more than second-placed Korea. Saudi Arabia earned the bronze.

Choi Jin A finishes strong to claim Women's All Events title

Jin A shot 1282 in Singles, 1356 in Doubles, 1354 in Trios and 1347 in the Team event en route to claim the gold medal with 5339, an average of 222.46 over 24 games on dual lane condition. Singles and Team champion Esther Cheah, Malaysia, earned the silver medal with 5296 (220.67) with Valerie Teo, Singapore, in third at 5245.

Malaysian women secure team gold with high score in the last game

Esther Cheah, Sharon Koh, Wendy Chai, Zandra Aziela and Shalin Zulkifli from Malaysia posted a 1223 score in the sixth and final game of the team event to secure the gold medal with 6555 pinfall total and an average of 218.50. The Malaysians set the pace on the second day with 3426 three-game total. Defending champion Korea recovered from a disastrous first day and earned silver, while Singapore took the bronze medal.

Malaysia cruises to victory in Men's Trios

2006AsianGamesLogo_small.jpg Daniel Lim, Ben Heng and Aaron Kong from Malaysia, who led the Men's Trios event at the 15th Asian Games after the first block on short oil, posted the highest score on the long oil pattern (2091) Wednesday to cruise to victory with 4089 six-game total. Defending Trios champions Lee Yu-Wen and Remy Ong and their new partner Jason Yeong-Nathan from Singapore earned silver, while Hassan Al Shaikh, Faisal Al Juraifani and Bader Al Shaikh from Saudi Arabia grabbed the bronze.

Korean women target to defend Trios title

No changes atop the leaderboard in the women's Trios event after the second three-game block on the long oil condition. Korea, Malaysia and Korea, who led the field after three games on short oil earned the gold, silver and bronze medals at the 15th Asian Games. Kim Hyo Mi, Hwang Sun Ok and Nam Bo Ra from Korea rolled games of 660, 677 and 595 (1932) to cruise to the title with 3983 pinfall total and an average of 221.28.

Singapore wins gold in Women's Doubles

2006AsianGamesLogo_small.jpg Valerie Teo and Michelle Kwang captured the gold medal in the women's Doubles at the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. The Singaporeans felled 2671 and averaged 222.58 for six games. Choi Jin A and Kim Yeau Jin of Korea, earned the silver medal with 2620. Both duos bowled in Squad 1. Leading the second squad were Maki Nakano and Kanako Ishimine from Japan, who finished in third place with 2598.

Gold and two silver medals for Arab countries in Men's Doubles

2006AsianGamesLogo_small.jpg Hassan and Bader Al Alshaikh from Saudi Arabia had a high team game of 526 and a low game of 435 to cruise to victory in the men's Doubles in the 15th Asian Games at Qatar Bowling Center in Doha, Qatar. The duo felled 2821 pins, an average of 235.08 over six games. All medals went to Arab countries as UAE's Jamal Ali/Nayef Oqab and Abdulla Al Qattan/Saeed Al Hajri from the host country shared the silver medal with 2782.

The reigning World Champion in Singles posted a 1444 six-game total. Putty Armein, Indonesia earned silver (1395) and Angkana Netrviseth, Thailand, received bronze (1331).

2006AsianGamesLogo_small.jpgOn the third day of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, the bowling competition got underway at 9 am with the women's Singles and with men's Singles following at 5pm (two squads each). 77 women and 114 men take on the lanes at the Qatar Bowling Center through December 10 to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines - Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team, All Events and Masters.
