2007 Men's European Championships 

Sandbaekken ends 2007 Men's European Championships with victory in Masters

Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria (June 30 - July 10, 2007)

2007MECMastersPodium_small.jpg Mads Sandbaekken from Norway, the reigning World Youth Championships Masters champion, swept four-time European champion Petteri Salonen, Finland, two-game-to-none to end the 2007 Men's European Championships at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria, with victory in the Masters competition. Sandbaekken, who turned 20 during the MEC last week, won the first game 230-226 and sealed the victory when she struck eight times in the first nine frames of game #2, 229-209. Salonen earned the silver medal while Mike Quarry, England and Dennis Eklund, Sweden shared the bronze.

Sweden triumphs in Team event at 2007 Men's European Championships

Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria (June 30 - July 10, 2007)

2007MECTeamGoldSweden_small.jpg Multiple World and European Champion Sweden triumphed in the five-player Team event in the 2007 Men's European Championships when they defeated Norway in the title match, 1049-971, at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. Peter Ljung, Dennis Eklund, Tobias Karlsson, Robert Andersson, Martin Larsen, Magnus Andersson and coach Tomas Leandersson earned the first EC team gold medal since 1997. Norway got silver while Finland and Greece shared the bronze medal.

The Finns, who won the Trios title yesterday took the No. 1 seed for the Team finals later this afternoon. In addition anchor Osku Palermaa (pictured) won the All Events gold ahead of 2. Martin Larsen, Sweden and 3. Darren Cundy, England. Larsen and his team mates qualified in second place to bowl No. 3 Greece in the semis. Finland takes on Day One leader Norway, in the other semi-final match.

2007MECTeamFinland_small.jpg Norway with Mads Sandbaekken, Per Kristian Eide, Svein Roger Olsen, Lasse Ingebrigtsen and Petter Hansen took the lead in the 2007 Men's European Championships Team event after three games on short oil (35 ft.) with 3349 pinfall total and an average of 223.27. Trailing Norway by 83 pins to sit in second place is Sweden with 3266. Their Scandinavian rivals, defending team champion Finland (pictured), led Squad #2 to move into third place with 3262. Fourth place belonged to the players from the host country of Austria, who were five pins behind with 3257.

2007MECTeamNorway_small.jpg Mads Sandbaekken, Per Kristian Eide, Svein Roger Olsen, Lasse Ingebrigtsen and Petter Hansen from Norway rolled games of 1121, 1079 and 1149 in Squad 1 to overtake the lead in the 2007 Men's European Championships Team event after three games on short oil (35 ft.) with 3349 pinfall total and an average of 223.46. World Youth Masters champion Sandbaekken closed out his set with the third 300 game of the championships. Second place belonged to Sweden (3266), with Greece in third (3243) and Denmark in fourth place (3101).

Sweden and Norway stayed in second and third position.

Italy, Denmark and Sweden crack top 10 in Trios in last squad on short oil

2007MECKonsteriJehkinenRatiaLehtonen_small.jpg Manolo Rocchi, Federico Rossi and Marco Reviglio from Italy felled 1976 pins in the third and final squad on 35-feet short oil pattern at the 2007 Men's European Championships to jump into fifth place in the overall standings. Joonas Jehkinen, Jari Ratia and Kimmo Lehtonen from Finland (l-r with coach Sami Konsteri on the far left) led the field of 67 trios from 35 countries with 2167, a 240.78 average. All players will return on Friday for the second 3-game block on long oil (45 feet).

Second Finnish trio leads Squad 2 to move into third place at 2007 Men's European Championships

2007MECLogo_small.jpg Defending European Trios champion Petteri Salonen and team mates Osku Palermaa and Timo Alho led the second of three squads in the Trios event to move into third place in the overall standing with 1981 pinfall total and an average of 220.11.  Their compatriots Joonas Jehkinen, Jari Ratia and Kimmo Lehtonen remained unchallenged after posting a new championship record of 2167, a 240.78 average, in the first squad, which was high lighted by a 300 game by Ratia.

The three-some set two championship records for one and three games as the started with an 803 games en route to a 2167 three-game total on the short-oil condition (35 feet), an average of 240,78 per game. Tybl/Gross beat World Champions to start 2007 Men's European Championships with victory in Doubles event

Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria (June 30 - July 10, 2007)

2007MECDoublesChampionsThomasTybThomaslGross_small.jpg Robert Andersson and Martin Larsen, the reigning World Champions in Doubles were targeting another Doubles title at the 2007 Men's European Championships in Vienna, Austria. However, local favorites Thomas Tybl and Thomas Gross had other plans as they defeated the Swedes, 495-446, in the title match to claim the first gold medal of the event. Sweden won the silver medal and Germany and Denmark shared the bronze medal.
