Colorado team fourth in Team All-Events

For the second consecutive year,
Jerry Casebolt (r.) of Pritchett, Colo., laced up his shoes for doubles and singles competition knowing exactly what he needed to shoot to help his team into the top spot in Team All-Events at the USBC Open Championships. It is a pressure that most bowlers don't get to experience because teams typically bowl all of their events together, or at least within the same day or two. But Casebolt, who bowled team with
Bowlingfordumdums.com last Saturday, was the odd man out and chose to bowl doubles and singles with some old friends from Colorado.

Bowling fans from every corner of the country were treated to one of the most unique bowling events in history as
Bowling's Clash of Champions, a United States Bowling Congress event, was taped for television Thursday night at Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. Delegates in town for the annual USBC Convention watched as 16 champions of USBC events and the U.S. Open battled for a top prize of $50,000 in an event that will be televised by CBS Sports on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern and Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern.

That was the major theme as the 2008 Convention kicked off Wednesday at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. North Carolina team produces two new leaders at USBC Women's Championships

When members of
Cathy's Hair Shapers made the long journey to Detroit from North Carolina for the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, they knew it would take a team effort and good scores to rise to the top. That is exactly what happened as the group came together and posted the highest score thus far in Division 2 (746-845 combined average) team with a 2,644. Janet Smith led the team with a 585 series, followed by Nancy Massengill (579), Cassandra Stephens (562), Angela Stallman (530) and Cathy Simmons (388).

Illinois couple takes Classified Doubles lead at USBC Open Championships

Jacqueline Snyder and
Bill Calhoon, a married couple from Cooksville, Ill., spend their days helping bowlers find success at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, but the pair took a major step closer to their own tournament dreams when they moved into the lead in Classified Doubles on Wednesday. Despite the lack of the practice, Snyder and Calhoon were determined to do their best on the tournament lanes and teamed up to shoot 1,282 on Wednesday.

CBS College Sports Network will air both national title matches in early June

For the fifth consecutive year, CBS College Sports Network will showcase the pinnacle event of the college bowling season - the
2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm - by airing the women's and men's national championship matches in early June. The women's national championship will air Wednesday, June 4, at 8 p.m. EDT. Two days later, the men's national championship will air on Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m. EDT.

Texas pair moves into second place at USBC Open Championships

Ted Smith of LaVernia, Texas (l-r), boast nearly 100 years of combined bowling experience, including 10 years together at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships. Armed with three bowling balls between them, the pair teamed up to shoot 1,188 at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Monday morning and moved into second place in Classified Doubles. Jim Kohlman of St. Paul, Minn., and Michael Roscoe of White Bear Lake, Minn., lead with 1,196.

Sport, Business of Bowling on display at 2008 USBC Convention

The sport and the business of bowling will take center stage this week when the 2008
United States Bowling Congress Convention takes place in Kansas City, Mo. The business part of the week begins Wednesday with morning workshops for the 2,000 attendees representing USBC bowlers nationwide. A general session including introduction of the
Clash of Champions participants and the first of a variety of awards presented during the week will be held that afternoon.

Defending champion in position to make history at USBC Open Championships

With his Regular All-Events title on the line,
Mike Rose Jr. of Rochester, N.Y., came through with the biggest frame of his bowling career and put himself in position to make history at the USBC Open Championships. Rose stepped onto the approach for his final frame needing a strike and nine-spare to secure the all-events lead and give himself a chance to become the first bowler in 105 years of USBC Open Championships competition to win back-to-back all-events titles. The 37-year-old right-hander got just what he needed, and his 2,161 total moved him past Randy Weiss of Columbia, S.C., who previously held the lead with 2,160.

USBC Bowling Ball Motion Study chosen for International Technical Conference
Presentation scheduled for Oct. 9 in Phoenix area

The recently completed
United States Bowling Congress bowling ball motion study, which was started to help protect the sport's future by addressing technology issues, has been selected as a presentation topic for the 52nd Annual Fall Technical Conference in October in Mesa, Ariz. Co-sponsored by divisions of the American Society for Quality and the American Statistical Association, the conference will include presentations by researchers and practitioners dealing with technical aspects of statistics and quality in various industries.

Colorado team just misses lead at USBC Open Championships

Fueled by the highest team game and the 11th 300 of the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships,
Bowlingfordumdums.com of Pritchett, Colo., moved into second place in Regular Team at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday night. The group started steadily with games of 1,045 and 1,003 before Craig Auerbach's perfect game helped them to a 1,236 effort, just 30 pins shy of the highest game in USBC Open Championships history. Bowlingfordumdums.com finished with a 3,284 total and settled into second place behind Rhino for President of Pleasant View, Utah, the only other team to break 1,200 this year, which leads with 3,298.

2008 USBC Open Championships reaches halfway point

The
2008 USBC Championships officially reached its halfway point last weekend at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Since the event opened on Feb. 16, nearly 30,000 bowlers on more than 6,000 teams have made the march down the tournament's Center Aisle hoping to join the latest group of Open Championships titlists. So far, 10 bowlers have achieved perfection on the championship lanes. Competitors at this year's Open Championships have bowled more than 270,000 games and knocked down nearly 50 million pins for an overall average of 171.61.

Barnes clinches second USBC Queens title

Her husband may be one of the best bowlers in the world, but
Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, proved she's not so bad herself Wednesday as she won the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Queens. Barnes, whose husband is PBA Player of the Year Chris Barnes, delivered three perfect strikes in the final frame en route to defeating Amy Stolz of Castle Rock, Colo., 215-195 at Skore Lanes to win the biggest and most prestigious title in women's bowling. Barnes took home $30,000 for first place in addition to the Queens tiara, pendant and crystal trophy.
