Diehl, of Wichita, Kan., claimed his prize at the Motel 6 Classic on Jan. 27 at the Strike Ten Bowling Center outside Las Vegas.
He won $30,000 bowling five frames – winning $1,000 for each pin he knocked down. To win the $1 million, Diehl had to pick up a 7-10 split in the sixth frame.
He could choose to bowl the 7-10 split himself or choose a Pro-Bowler to make the attempt. Diehl chose Motel 6 team member Mike Wolfe to bowl for the difficult and rare 7-10 split. Unfortunately, Wolfe was unable to knock down both pins for the $1 million.
Motel 6, the official lodging sponsor of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), teamed up with OCC, Strike Ten and PBA to create the 'Motel 6 Strikes and Bikes Sweepstakes'. The grand prize was the OCC Custom Chopper, of Discovery Channel’s American Chopper TV show fame, valued at over $60,000 and the chance to bowl for $1 million at an ESPN televised PBA tournament.
Created in the classic OCC style, the Chopper features orange and blue swirled across the body of the bike, reflecting the signature colors of the Motel 6 logo. Other prizes included OCC gift packs, bowling parties at Strike Ten bowling centers, Elite bowling balls and Dexter bowling shoes.
The Motel 6 Classic is part of the Denny’s PBA Tour. The schedule included a Fan Day, with a Pro-Am tournament and Pro-Am sessions where professional bowlers gave personalized instruction on the lanes, giving fans the chance to meet and bowl with legends such as Motel 6 team members Danny Wiseman, Mike Wolfe and Norm Duke, who holds 23 Denny’s PBA Tour titles.
