Alfital ends 20th European Youth Championships with victory in Boys Masters

SveinAkeEk_samll.jpg AvivAlfital_small.jpg Aviv Alfital from Israel swept Svein Ake Ek, Norway, two-games-to-none, to end the 20th European Youth Championships at Strike Bowling Club in Thessaloniki, Greece, with victory in the Boys Masters.

The Israeli (pictured left), who won gold in doubles, and bronze in Team and All Events captured his second gold medal, the only boy in the championships, who accomplished that feat. Alfital won the first game, 191-173,

He started game two with a spare, then reeled off four consecutive strikes and never looked back. Ek (above, right, who earned silver in the Norwegian Team and bronze in All Events, had five strikes on his last seven shots but a 2-pin in game 8 handed the game and the match to the Israeli. Alvital put the match out of reach with a strike in the 9th to cruise to the title, 223-215.

Ek and Alfital to bowl for gold in Boys Masters at the 20th European Youth Championships

Svein Ake Ek from Norway and Aviv Alfital from Israel will bowl for the gold medal in the TV final of Boys Masters event at the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.

AlexeyVasilenko_small.jpg GyorgyBodis_small.jpg Ek edged Gyorgy Bodis (left) from Hungary, two-games-to-none, to advance to the finals. The 18-year-old already improved on a fifth-place finish last year. Alfital, 18, swept Alexey Vasilenko (right), Russia, 2-0, firing big scores of 225 and 244. Bodis and Vasilenko will share the bronze medal.


Quarterfinals


It's down to four in Boys Masters finals at the 20th European Youth Championships

TonyRanta_small.jpg Gyorgy Bodis from Hungary defeated All Events champion Tony Ranta (left), Finland, 2-1, to advance to the semi-finals of the Boys Masters finals at the 20th European Youth Championships in Greece.

JohanHellden_small.jpg Bodis will bowl Svein Ake Ek, Norway, who eliminated his Bodis' compatriot David Kodmon, 2-1.

In the other semi-final, Aviv Alfital from Israel (235-228 winner in the decider against Johan Hellden (right), Sweden) will face Alexey Vasilenko, who won a low-scoring encounter against Benjamin Kubalek, Austria.

Defending champion eliminated in Boys Masters Round 2 at the 20th European Youth Championships

DavidKodmon_small.jpg Defending Boys Masters champion Sascha Obst from Germany fell to Hungarian David Kodmon (left), 1-2, in the second round of the Boys Masters final at the at the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.

BenjaminKubalek_small.jpg Kodmon will face All Events bronze medalist Svein Ake Ek, Norway, in the quarterfinal. 15-year-old All Events champion Tony Ranta from Finland sidelined Arturs Levikins from Latvia, 2-0, to meet the second Hungarian, Gyorgy Bodis.

In the other matches, Austrian Benjamin Kubalek (right), Austria takes on Russian Alexey Vasilenko and Swede Johan Hellden faces Aviv Alfital, Israel.

Top seeds enter the Boys Masters finals at the 20th European Youth Championships

2007EYCLogo_small.jpg The top eight in All Events, who earned a bye for the first round of the Boys Masters finals, will meet the eight winners of Round 1 (Highest seed bowls the lowest seed, etc.). All Events champion Tony Ranta from Finland, 15, will bowl #24 Arturs Levikins from Latvia. Austrian lefty Benjamin Kubalek, Austria, meets the sole remaining player from the host country, Nikos Michas, whose team mate Vangelis Krizinis went out in the first round vs. Johan Hellden, Sweden, 1-2. An interesting match will be the clash of two Israelis, Aviv Alfital and Dor Speizman.
