Sweden sets new record to overtake lead in Boys Trios in European Youth Championships

Johan Sörensen, Kim Ojala,and Johan Hellden (l-r) from Sweden, who led the Boys Trios event in the 20th European Youth Championships after the first three-game block with 1987, added a 1956 series on day two to overtake the lead after two of three squads with 3943 breaking the EYC record for six games by two pins.
The trio started the day with a huge 685 game, then took a little rest (593) and then closed out the set with 692. Ojala rolled a 713 three-game series today and led the team with 1340. Sörensen had 620 for 1302 and Hellden had 623 for 1301. The Swedes averaged 219.06 overall and the Swedish fans (pictured right) on the stands went crazy. It ended up - after the games were over - in a shouting contest between the fans and the three players. Click on the picture to enlarge.
Italians Daniele Tomatis, Tommaso Radi and Augusto Formisano (l-r with coach Salvatore Lansafame and team manager Sam Anker), who led after Squad 1 slipped to second place with 3843 and an average of 213.50.
England's Matt Miller, Andrew Jones and Matt Chamberlain are "on the bubble" now. The trio is in third place with 3796 (210.89). Sweden, Italy and England have to sit and wait until the third and last squad scheduled for 9.00pm local time (GM plus 2 hours) is finished.
Norwegians Ole Jorgen Arntsen, Simen Jensen and Carl Magnus Pettersen the squad in the first block with 1893 three-game total. This means the team of coach Ulf Hämnäs (far right) and team manager Erik Garder needs 1904 (211.44) for bronze, 1950 (216.67) for silver and 2050 (227.78) for gold. The remaining trios need even more than this.
Doubles gold medalists Aviv Alfital (left) and Ben Fishler (right) with Oron Cohen (center) from Israel slipped out of the medals and sit in fourth place now with 3752 (208.44).
The other Norwegian trio with Alexander Kvinnesland, Andre Langrin Hansen and Svein Ake Ek are fifth with 3748. Ek, the 2006 All Event runner-up rolled his second 270-plus game of the championships en route to move into fourth place in All Events after 12 of 18 games with 2604. Tony Ranta from Finland (left) overtook the lead with a 1372 set in Trios and 2715 overall, a 226.25 average. Vladislavs Filimonovs from Latvia is second at 2632, with Ben Fishler, Israel third at 2626.
