Sweden defends title in Boys Trios event at the 20th European Youth Championships

There were no changes atop the leaderboard in the third and final squad of the Boys Trios event at the 20th European Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Kim Ojala, Johan Sörensen and Johan Hellden (above, l-r with coach Stefan Yngström in the back) won the first gold medal for Sweden with a new EYC record of 3943 and an average of 219.06. Ojala led the way with 1340 while Sörensen and Hellden added 1302 and 1301, resp.
Italy with Daniele Tomatis, Tommaso Radi and Augusto Formisano (pictured left), who led after Squad 1 earned the silver medal with 3843 and an average of 213.50.
England's Matt Miller, Andrew Jones and Matt Chamberlain (pictured right) survived a late challenge by Finland to land in third place en route to receive the bronze medal with 3796 and an average of 210.89. Finns Mikko Hirvonen, Juuso Tiainen and Mikael Tuomisalo started the evening with 635 and 687 and needed another 656 to capture the bronze medal but fell 49 pins short to settle tied for fifth place with 3748.
Israel with Doubles gold medalists Aviv Alfital (left) and Ben Fishler (right) as well as Oron Cohen (center) finished in fifth place with 3752.
Norwegians Alexander Kvinnesland, Andre Langrin Hansen and Svein Ake Ek were tied with the Finns in fifth place with 3748.
The Boys will return on Thursday for the five-player team event with Squad 1 scheduled for 1.00pm and Squad 2 for 5.30pm local time (GM +2).
