Sensational gold medal for Greece in Boys Team event at the 20th European Youth Championships

Strike Bowling Club in Thessaloniki, Greece was a madhouse as fans were singing, dancing hugging each other. Greece has won a sensational gold medal in the Boys Team event at 20th European Youth Championships.
Starting the day in fifth position with 2994 (-6) after three games, George Venetis, Michael Michas, George Stefanidis, Nikos Michas and Vangelis Krizinis fired games of 1064, 1105 and 996 to win the first medal ever in a European Youth Championship with 6159 pinfall total and an average of 205.40.
Led by Hellenic Bowling Federation president Alex Tzounis and bowling center proprietor Bill Hartofillis literally everybody in the packed house congratulated the players from the host country for a well deserved gold medal.
The final game of the team event was an exciting showdown, not only for the gold medal but also for silver and bronze. Norway came from sixth place to win the silver medal with 6089 (202.97).
Simen Jensen, Carl Magnus Pettersen, Alexander Kvinnesland, Andre Langrin Hansen and Svein Ake Ek posted games of 1006, 1063 including Kvinnesland's 289 and 1028.
In addition Ek won the bronze medal in All Events with a 221.22 average, just one pin behind silver medalist Ben Fishler from Israel.
Israel with Oron Cohen, Aviv Alfital, Ben Fishler, Dor Speizman and Nati Volfart took the bronze medal trailing Norway by seven pins with 6082 (202.73). The Israelis,, who were seventh after day one hat games of 1092, 1062 and 942 to beat out overnight leader Germany for the bronze medal.
