PBA Special Event
Feldman leads 16 qualifiers into PBA Women's Series
National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., United States (Aug. 13-18, 2007)
For Michelle Feldman, the thought of additional women's bowling events is always on her mind. With the addition of this fall's Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Women's Series, Feldman's wish is becoming a reality. Picture courtesy of PBA LLC.Feldman will lead 15 other competitors who qualified for the series with their finish in the 2007 PBA Women's Tour Trials, which were being held in conjunction with the 2007 U.S. Women's Open, a United States Bowling Congress (USBC) event.
Feldman (Skaneateles, N.Y.) led the field, who bowled 32 games over four days on four different PBA oil patterns, with a 32-game pinfall of 6,790.
"It was nice to make it and now I hope to win at least two times in the four weeks (on the PBA Women's Series)," said Feldman. "Hopefully these events lead to something more substantial next year and the year after. Not just four weeks, but something on our own further down the road."
Feldman, who entered Thursday's final round on the Chameleon oil pattern in third, posted an eight-game pinfall of 1,669, with five games over the 200 mark including a high of 234 in her sixth game.
"It was a challenging pattern, all the patterns are challenging. I'm not able to bowl day in and day out on these patterns like the exempt bowlers. Really the only time I get to bowl on these shots are in my PBA experience league," added Feldman.
Kelly Kulick, who lead Tuesday and Wednesday's rounds, finished second with 6,780. Kulick (Union, N.J.), who made history last year as the first-ever exempt female bowler on the Denny's PBA Tour, posted an eight-game block of 1,537.
Karen Stroud of Victoria, Texas finished third with 6,778 after posting the day's high score of 1,840. Stroud capped the block with a 290 in game eight along with scores of 258 and 243 in games two and five, respectively.
Carolyn Dorin-Ballard (North Richland Hills, Texas) rounded out the top four with 6,777 after Thursday's 1,680.
Monday's leader Stefanie Nation (Orlando, Fla.) finished seventh with 6,678.
The 2007 PBA Women's Series, which is sponsored by the USBC, marks the first opportunity for women to bowl on Tour since the Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) folded in 2003.
The series will feature 16 women competing in four events which will run concurrently with four Denny's PBA Tour events. All events will feature a $51,100 prize fund including a $10,000 top prize.

Kulick widens lead in PBA Women's Tour Trials on Shark pattern
The common observation Tuesday evening at the 2007 Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Women's Tour Trials was that Wednesday's Shark oil pattern would separate the field and more clearly distinguish the top bowlers at the National Bowling Stadium. That observation held true to form as Kelly Kulick (pictured), who made history last season as the first-ever exempt female bowler on the Denny's PBA Tour, continued her stronghold on the field, leading for the second consecutive day with a three-day, 24-game pinfall of 5,243.
Kulick (Jackson, N.J.) posted an eight-game pinfall of 1,734 in the third round of competition at the Tour Trials, which are being held in conjunction with the 2007 U.S. Women's Open, a United States Bowling Congress (USBC) event.
"I didn't take a lot of risks and generally played smart today," said Kulick, who said Tuesday she planned to play it safe on the Shark pattern. "Every time I wanted to make a ball change, I held off and I was able to keep going at a good pace. My spare game was great until the final game. I didn't miss a single spare in the first seven games and that's key on a pattern like this."
Kulick opened the block with four consecutive scores over 215, dropped to 196 in the fifth before rebounding with scores of 269 and 225 in games six and seven. Kulick closed the round with her lowest score of the day, 160.
Tied for second, 122 pins behind Kulick, are Wendy Macpherson (Henderson, Nev.) and Michelle Feldman (Skaneateles, N.Y.) with 5,121. Macpherson posted the day's highest eight-game block with 1,800.
Shannon Pluhowsky (Phoenix, Ariz.) is fourth after posting 1,692 on Wednesday for a 24-game pinfall of 5,108. Monday's leader Stefanie Nation (Orlando, Fla.) is sixth with 5,013.
The entire field returns Thursday for the fourth and final eight-game block, bowling on the Chameleon oil pattern beginning at 10 a.m. PT. The top 16 women after Thursday's fourth round, based on a 32-game pinfall will earn exemptions for the 2007 PBA Women's Series.
The 2007 PBA Women's Series, which is sponsored by the USBC, marks the first opportunity for women to bowl on Tour since the Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) folded in 2003. Kulick overcomes the Scorpion pattern to take the lead in PBA Women's Tour Trials
After getting a taste for the Denny's Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour as the first-ever exempt female bowler, Kelly Kulick (pictured left) has the desire to return to the top and is positioning herself to do so as the leader in the 2007 PBA Women's Tour Trials, which are being held in conjunction with the 2007 U.S. Women's Open, a United States Bowling Congress (USBC) event, at the National Bowling Stadium. The Tour Trials, which grant exemptions to the top 16 women for this fall's PBA Women's Series, feature a field of 65 women with Kulick leading the way with a two-day, 16-game pinfall of 3,509.
Kulick (Union, N.J.) opened the day with a 225 and after dropping a 169 in the second game, caught fire. Kulick averaged 258.25 over the next four games including a 289 in game six and finished with the day's top round, an eight-game pinfall of 1,804, on the Scorpion oil pattern.
"On Tour, this pattern was probably my worst. I drilled a new ball and it seemed to match up well for me today," said Kulick. "From being out on the Denny's Tour, I have an idea of how all the patterns play. I've also had a solid year of practice and my game is sharp right now and it showed at the USBC Queens."
In second is Michelle Feldman (Skaneateles, N.Y.), who posted 1,786 on Tuesday, for a 16-game pinfall of 3,485. Feldman led heading into the eighth and final game, but a 7-10 split in the eighth frame gave Kulick the lead.
Carolyn Dorin-Ballard (North Richland Hills, Texas) rounds out the top three with 3,447 after posting 1,697 on Tuesday. Monday's leader Stefanie Nation (Orlando, Fla.) is 10th with 3,320.
The entire field returns Wednesday for the third of four eight-game blocks, bowling on the Shark oil pattern beginning at 10 a.m. PT. The top 16 women after Thursday's fourth round, based on a 32-game pinfall, and who have paid the additional PBA Women's Tour Trials entry fee will earn exemptions for the 2007 PBA Women's Series.

Nation leads PBA Women's Tour Trials after Day One
After being named the Player of the Year in the 2006 United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Championships, Stefanie Nation is hardly an unknown in the world of women’s bowling. Picture courtesy of PBA LLC.Nation leads the field with an eight-game pinfall of 1,774 on the PBA Viper oil pattern in the 2007 PBA Women’s Tour Trials, which is being held in conjunction with the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open, a USBC event, at the National Bowling Stadium.
“When we lay this pattern down back home, it’s easier for me,” said Nation (Orlando, Fla.). “Today it didn’t play the same for me. I had to throw a ball with surface. I was using a Blast Zone which I’ve only used for a couple of weeks, so I’m still getting a good feel for it. I was able to throw some great shots and I got rewarded. It’s nice to have a good start in any tournament and not come from behind.”
Nation opened and closed the block with her two lowest scores of the day, 187 and 154, respectively. The two scores were the only two games under 200 for Nation as the Team USA member averaged 238.83 over games 2-7, including a 269 in game five.
Karen Stroud (Victoria, Texas) is Nation’s closest competition, coming in second, 17 pins behind with 1,757. Stroud opened the day with her two highest scores of 256 and 234.
Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, a 20-time winner on the defunct Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour, is third with 1,750. Dorin-Ballard (North Richland Hills, Texas) stayed above 200 in every game including a high game of 236 in her fifth game.
Kelly Kulick (Union, N.J.), who made history as the first-ever exempt female bowler on the Denny’s PBA Tour, is fourth with 1,705.
The entire field will return Tuesday for the second of four eight-game blocks, bowling on the Scorpion oil pattern beginning at 10 a.m. PT. The top 16 women after Thursday’s fourth round, based on a 32-game pinfall, and who have paid the additional PBA Women’s Tour Trials entry fee will earn exemptions for the 2007 PBA Women’s Series.
